I can't say I am happy with the Ecoboost, but I certainly was when I had it! Manders hit the nail on the head I think - the EB is a "better" daily driver. That is true for me anyway, it's one of the regrets I have about upgrading, that & the fact that it was my first Mustang - I thought at one point I'd have it forever...

In my opinion the EB maybe has the edge for general daily driving, it feels a little bit more lively. There is a reason the v8 is labelled as "lazy".

So why did I change? Let me put it this way...

Owning an EB is like dating a super model; she's stunning to look at, great fun, makes you feel good, other guys will look at you in envy of the beauty you have in your life! It's great for a lot of reasons as I'm sure you can imagine...

But then there's that one girl, she may look like the others but she's got that something special, she's got a great heart & soul, there's something about her that just makes you feel a certain way.

It's an emotional decision for sure - for me the affordability of the Ecoboost was what got me in to a Mustang. At the time I ordered, the v8 was an absolute no go & I enjoyed every second with the EB, I really did, but the heart wants what the heart wants & now I'm a very happy GT owner.

I genuinely struggle to answer which is better out of the 2 & it's a question I get asked a lot, but the simple answer is - the V8 just feels more special to me.

Both are superb though & although right now I think I'll own my current car forever, I certainly wouldn't rule out every getting an EB again. As long as the EB is right for you, that's what counts - don't listen to anyone that says a Mustang has to have a V8 - they're chatting bollocks :)

Especially when they've not driven both the cars enough to know.

Many, in fact I would say most Non American people buy the Mustang because of its Americanness(?).Like me they saw them decades ago and always drooled over their over the top ,in your face ,loud personality. We knew they were not particularly quick, couldn't corner, gulped fuel, and were not particularly well made.

If you want a quick car there are much better alternatives out there.

No most buy them for their soul ,heritage,Americanness.

And to fully get that sensation then it can't possibly be a 4 Pot:D

Oh dear, this thread is becoming an EB v V8 discussion. It really should be left to the EB guys as it is meant to be about 'are they happy with it'

But hell, I am going to put my bit in and support the EB

Only reason I have a Mustang is because of the EB. I have always loved American cars but would never have considered buying a V8. Yes, that changed between my 'unofficial' order and making it 'official' mainly because I bought with my heart.

Its crap (imo) that a Mustang has to be a V8. The fact is, the EB is putting people in a Mustang that otherwise would be in an A5 or a 4series

So, I reckon most owners with an EB are happy and good on them. Its a cracking car whatever engine it has. I would even rather have a diesel mustang over an A5 or M4

In terms of speed, handling etc. etc. I have no doubt that you can get the Ecoboost to accelerate, stop, steer and handle as well, if not better than the v8 :) with a few choice mods. The 4 pot is lighter so the Eco probably handles better out of the box.

Would I have considered one, no :ninja: For me the whole point of the Mustang is the big v8, the noise, character and feeling of driving a big naturally aspirated manual v8. It's a lovely slice of Americana in a predominantly dull world of turbo 4 pot auto boxes.

If all I wanted to do was go, very quickly, in all weathers, hammering off the rev limiter at all times I'd be sitting in an Focus RS or Golf R/S3.

For me, and the type of driving I do most of the time, it's the big v8 that makes the drive and I can live with the compromises of the Mustang (rear space, crap fuel consumption, it's a big car) just for the sheer character. Every start up, tunnel and car park is a delight

I just don't think the small 4 pot goes with the car, it's a Mustang - it has to have a v8. I don't mean in terms of actual driving, performance etc. as I'm sure the Eco is perfectly fine.

I will admit that sound is almost my number one priority in a car, and no matter what you do, a 4 pot never sounds nice to me, loud - sure, nice - no  although I will admit to liking the Scooby burble (yes to that in a 20K Subaru, no to that in a 60K Porsche - one of the reasons I'll never own a 718 Cayman/Boxster.).

I agree ,this post asked solely about the Ecoboost ,but then the most prominent reply fixated on the shortcomings of the V8 and hence the post went astray.I had to balance the books;)

You're missing the point. Re rear what you quoted.

(I deleted a huge post here to save this thread turning into a sess pool).

The badge is the heritage, not the engine.

if your recent post is about me, my post is balanced, infact, heavily balanced. If i wanted to 'slate' an engine model it wouldn't be unbias.

This ^^

I think sometimes people forget the original ethos of the Mustang; fast, fun & affordable. V8 ticked all the boxes in the 60's but technology has changed & the EB is now a big tick in the affordability box. The EB is a masterpiece of an engine, I'm a fan of the technology & it always blows my mind to think how much power comes out of that engine & how economical it is.

Audi A5 was probably the only other car I was genuinely close to wanting to buy, had the Mustang not been around. But given the choice now between the 2, I'll have the Mustang every time - EB or V8. You can even try to tempt me with the S5 with a V8 but I'd still rather have the Mustang :amen:

I guess then I'll own up to not adding to this thread constructively in my earlier reply .. as I can't answer the question asked

I just like Mustang discussions and it's not the thread to discuss the relative merits ... errrr oopsies :D

As Duncan would say 'Emmm ooot'

The original post asked simply "are you happy with the Ecoboost"

You decided to make your reply a EB versus V8 comparison

Maybe you made a mistake doing so.;)

Its a Mustang, End Of
If I could not have afforded a V8, and could have got a fully loaded EB from the US, I would have seriously thought about it.
With the Hybrid coming in a few years, what will that be?

As long as it "sounds" like a V8 I would consider it!,quite like the sound of a loud and tuned V6/straight 6 also.

The topic states such. The comment says:
"Most people on this forum seem to have a GT. I wonder if anyone here is content with the EB version?"

To be able to say if you are content with an EB, or a V8 (if the opposite was asked) you'd need to have driven the alternative.

As larry rightly says, it's a mustang whether it had the EB, V8, v6 or a fucking v12 engine if ford decide to do that, it's in the badge.

You don't say a dyson hoover isn't a dyson because it's got a different fucking motor in it do you?

I’m not an expert on the history of the Ford Mustang, but a quick wiki search clearly shows that from the very beginning, the Mustang had a range of engines from V4, Straight 4, V6 straight 6, and V8

The smaller engined variants are still mustangs, and were bread and butter to ford back in the 60’s and 70’s

In my view Nothing’s changed, a Mustang is a Mustang.... the engine is secondary.:D:)

I am sure you can get your point across without the use of expletives surely:eyebulge:
