my dealer will not cancel my order or refund me my 1000$ deposit. pretty frustrated with this whole process. they cashed my deposit more than 3 months ago - if they would have told me up front that it could possibly take half a year, I wouldn't have ordered.

You should have a chat with an attorney friend. Is there a contract? What does it say about dealer responsibility for doing the delivery within a certain time period? And, your right to cancel? Did you order something that they just would never be able to sell? Odd color or package combination? Be sure that you are talking to a Manager at the Dealership, salespeople often mislead. You might even want to call a Ford Customer Service Line. And, then there is Social Media. It's not right (and probably not customary) to keep a deposit for something that is most likely going to be in high demand, like a 2018 Mustang GT. And then there is the option of waiting it out. Good Luck!!!

I feel your pain. Despite sending email to dealer to add "spoiler delete" before I signed, I did not notice it was missing from the order when I did sign. For over two weeks I was told that the order could be changed, "No problem!" Finally, I was told a few days ago that the spoiler delete could NOT be added because production was already scheduled (a month away). Return of deposit and just pick up one locally?...ha ha ha ha!

So, I have to start over...my new order won't even get put in until Monday. We'll see how long it takes this time to get on COTUS.

This is why I double checked and my parents checked as well. Cause I knew if I missed something I wouldn't be happy. I felt like I was annoying the dealer but like my father told me "they want to get the car YOU want." And dealers are people too. They make mistakes...

@foqus so you reordered with the same dealer? If not, you did get your deposit back?
I ordered from the same dealer, and they transferred over my deposit to the new order. If I had cancelled my order and gone to another dealer, I (probably) would have lost the deposit.

From my Buyer's Order small print:

"REFUNDS: Should you cancel this order (before vehicle is shipped), one percent of the purchase price will be deducted from your deposit to cover our administrative cost in processing the order. Should you cancel this order (for other reasons) we will retain your deposit up to $550 plus 1%..."

So, there are different scenarios, but mostly it seems that if you didn't read your order clearly enough when signing it (like me), then the order is for your own "convenience", and they keep the deposit. It doesn't say anything about applying your deposit to a new order, but that is what my salesperson says is going to happen. Of course I will keep the board updated on my progress/price/situation.

They also required an additional deposit of $500 for the new order.

It will be interesting to see how the timing works out. I really am looking forward to the car, but it's hard to get excited now that I have no VIN, no production scheduled, winter is coming, etc etc. Oh well.

In the end, re-ordering and not losing the deposit was the least of all evils.

its strange to me that they keep your deposit. they dont lose a thing, except a guaranteed sale. My dealer has never asked for any deposit on any car i have ordered. when i ordered the 2015, it kept getting delayed and then another came in and they said if i want it take that instead. i asked about the one i had ordered, i said i dont want them stuck with it, they said dont worry about it, if i dont buy it, someone eventually will.

i even went in today to look at an 18 they got in just to see it in person, but unfortunately it was in the body shop to fix something with the paint so they are calling when it gets out or if another arrives before that, but i asked about a possible change but i dont want it to effect the build date of 11/28. the GM even went in to look at it and said he cant guarantee it wont change the date but then when he was playing with it, he said it would not accept any change now on it and he saw the date coming up. he even suggested, we can just start a new order from scratch if you want to, i said no im fine just leave it.

My dealer took a non-refundable $1000 deposit. They are getting one of their 18s in on the 26th. I might drive down there just to see them and maybe drive one. They don't have everything I want on them. So I'll just wait till they get mine in. But I do want to see what the 18s looks like in person. I don't even think they have the digital cluster. I'm not 100% sure on that though...

Aren't you in Disney? I'll be going on Tuesday. I'm so excited! It's supposed to be in the 70s.

Nice clause, but, what is the remedy for the buyer if the delivery time becomes unreasonable or if the buyers' financial situation changes (lost job, for instance) or if the vehicle comes in with a defect (like paint damage)? Like others, I've never left a deposit on an order. And, for the reasons already noted. My current order may be specific to my want/need, but the vehicle would have been sold at some point. We are ordering these '18's early in the Model Year and they seem to be in demand. I have made a 'deposit' on dealer trades before, but, those have been 24-48 hr transactions and there is a sunk cost to the dealer.

Buyers should get to know the dealer they are working with and, if a deposit is requested, be sure to read the fine print and be sure to add escape clauses. And document everything.

I'll feel bad if I have to walk on my current order, but, I've given the dealer notice, in writing, that I'll be looking elsewhere for a similar car if mine is not on it's way by Thanksgiving. I've also expressed a concern as to why a vehicle produced on 10/19 is still awaiting shipment more than 3 weeks later. Many reasons run through my mind, including 'damaged in production, repairs needed'.

We just got home last night after 10 days there! perfect weather, no rain at all. I of course, missed my dealer getting the test model car coming by yesterday, i got pics of it, but we were on a plane on the way back when it came in!

The F150's MY18 are on the showroom floors, but the ponies haven't even made it to the dealers lots yet? What gives in Texas?
