I have messed around with the Ford pass app and connecting it to the car but having trouble getting it to update the cars info. Does anyone actually use this feature?

All it did was murder my battery while I sat there looking like an idiot trying to figure out if it did anything.

Mine stopped working when I tried to do vehicle health monitoring.
Used to work before with the old app.

Interesting. Mine says the health report is working but it will not update fuel amount and mileage. Shows it last updated this past Friday. All it says on the app is to plug in but it does nothing.

The base app is not all that exciting. The cool stuff comes with the 2018 model Premium Plus option package with Sync Connect on-board modem using the Ford Pass App. You can do remote starts, lock/unlock, track the vehicle and get the vehicle health monitoring all on your phone... and it works. In vehicle WiFi is also included, free at first then requires an ATT data plan that can be set up.

How do you know it works? Do you have a 2018 model there you can test it with?

Sounds pretty cool... if it works. But seriously, are people willing to pay for a data plan on their car? I'm sure the data usage is minimal, but sorry that is where I draw the line. I didn't even have a data plan until I was out of college, now a car will require it to use all of its features?

Also, I'm assuming its open to more than an ATT data plan right? Curious where you heard this info from. If it's ATT only, then people who have cell phones with Verizon or someone have to open a separate account for their car with ATT?

I guess I miss the days where remote start and lock/unlock is what your key FOB was for lol.

As I understand it, the data plan is only if you want WiFi in your car. If you already have a phone capable of being a hotspot this feature is useless. If you just want to do the remote start and other Ford Pass features, that is a separate, much lower fee. And I think that part is free for the first 5 years you own the car.

It's actually a 3 month trial for 3GB of data, not 5 years.

Have it on my f150

So does the 3GB cover wifi for the car? Does it include the Ford Pass features in the 3GB or is it separate?

How much do you actually use it? To me there are very few times I would need my car to be a hotspot when my phone already does this. I do travel a lot for work and a mobile hotspot is a lifesaver for what I do, but I just don't see what problem this feature fixes. Don't get me wrong, sounds cool and all but I just get caught up on having to pay for something I already have. Oh and I can take my phone with me when I get where I am going.

Also... I bet AAA has gotten a few calls like this already. "I need a jump, my battery is dead. My buddies and I were hitting the car's wifi hotspot pretty hard and now the car won't start. Glad we could bullshit and watch YouTube videos all day on the side of the road, but now we have dead phones and a dead car battery... help we can't check facebook!!!!"

Used it a couple times.. The 3gb is included for the FordPass. It updates your car, you can unlock it, etc. It doesn't really solve any problem, it's just there for convenience. I had guests from abroad and they used it while I was driving around. But I didn't use it after that, nor will I renew it and pay for it continually. Wifi is pretty strong though.. You could walk out like 20-30 feet and it'll still work. Either way, if one car has Wifi, other car companies need to start offering it too. End of the day, people pay for useless features that drive premiums up! All for the sake of saying "hey my car has wifi" lol

Hmm, I thought you don't need to get an account yourself with AT&T if you decided to use the fordpass, you just activate it through ford and pay them, and they'll handle all the rest. Since if the car needs an data plan, then it needs some kind of a sim card in the head unit or somewhere else in the car, and I don't recall seeing anywhere to access that sim card.

To clarify... Ford Pass is the free app that is loaded. It does basic stuff like allow payment of a Ford Credit car loan, call roadside assistance, schedule service appointments and notify you of recalls. Any Ford owner car use it with their new car/truck. If the car has the on-board modem installed from the factory you can use Sync Connect for free (for at least 5 years) to do the lock/unlock, remote starts, schedule remote starts and locate the vehicle. The Sync Connect part is coming to the Mustang in 2018, but this feature has been available on certain Fords/Lincolns since 2015. That is how I know it works. The WiFi is part of the Sync Connect system and is offered on only certain 2018 Ford vehicles since other manufacturers offer it. The Mustang is one of those vehicles.

So really for a base model mustang GT it serves no purpose?
