What are you doing with the car? Drag track? Rolls street? Road Course? Very different gearing between the MT82 and TR6060.
not all 6060 are created equal. it appears the 6R80 is rated 590 lb ft. To beat that, you would need Tremec TR6060-D, 1st gear 2.66. Rated at 600 lb ft. MT82 is geared shorter than that, which implies a lower torque rating.

You cant go by factory torque ratings to compare different transmissions. Factory torque ratings are based on several different factors (vehicle weight, trans gearing, final drive gearing, torque converter design, etc) and are also not PEAK torque capacity but instead more of a steady state longevity measure given the expected life of the rest of the vehicle.

Clearly 590lb ft for the 6r80 is a joke, plenty of guys with stock trans living well over 700btq without issue. And plenty of MT82 guys with stock trans living well over 600btq.

Best is to go by actual survey of how peoples transmissions are living and also why they are breaking when they do. Just because the MT82 gears can shatter when you power shift it with a ceramic/grabby clutch with even stockish/bolt on power doesn't mean we should lower its torque capacity to lower than stock power. That is specific event and weak point in the trans. I have had a manual trans literally throw the input shaft out the case of the trans mid-gear. THAT is a true failure that I would say I found the true peak torque capacity of that trans.

I think a good example to illustrate how you should rate a trans, consider this:

Trans 1: known to fail at pretty much any torque amount when power shifted, but known to hold UNLIMITED power in gear (this scenario means a really beefy input shaft and shitty output shaft gears). Factory trans rating is 450lb ft

Trans 2: never known to fail from any abusive hard shifting, but is known to blow apart in gear (scenario means shitty input shaft, but beefy syncros and other parts) past 800lb ft. Factory rating is 550lb ft.

You have a 900lb ft torque setup, which trans would you choose? I pick trans 1 all day, trans 2 will surely fail. All the internet trolls will say trans 1 has a lower torque capacity than trans 2 because trans 1 blew apart on a 8000rpm WOT shift with a solid hub ceramic twin disc clutch.

I see what you are getting at. I was just taking the more simple approach to compare. Torque rating is probably a very conservative number that the manufacturers are willing to warranty.

edit:
Dodge Challenger TR6060 torque numbers removed, as they may not be accurate.

We've used the RXT on several of our shop cars with great success and never broke anything. All of these cars were drag raced on slicks and powershifted.

Not only do we have experience running and racing the RXT on our shop cars I'll say with confidence we've sold and supported more of them than any other vendor on this forum.

The RST is a great clutch as well however it's not recommended for cars that see the track or get beat on. The material used on it simply doesn't like to get real hot and won'y last long under extreme conditions. That's why we recommend the RXT over the RST in most situations.

Here's a few of our MT-82 cars that ran RXT's and never had an issue.

Instead of listening to the one person that says the RXT will ruin your MT-82 guaranteed how bout listening to the people that actually run them, race them and have had great success with them for years?

If you guys have any questions regarding any of Mcleod's products please feel free to give us a call. 561-753-8105.

Actually spoke directly with them the other day with the questions I had, He said and I quote. "Go magnum t56xl, that mt82 is pure junk" LOL 5k for a trans is just not in my budget any time soon but I dont want to blow my current mt82.:headbang:

"Go magnum t56xl, that mt82 is pure junk" LOL 5k for a trans is just not in my budget any time soon but I dont want to blow my current mt82.:headbang: He also said I'd be on borrowed time with the RST. I just didnt know if anyone out there with this power occasionally tracked it with success and longevity.
think about that....

You talked to a guy, that all he does is fix broken transmissions :headbonk:

If I had to guess, his numero uno profit making is customers with broken MT82's coming in the door, and has little if any broken T56 or TR6060's coming in. In fairness to him he concludes the MT82 is the junk. Its pretty easy to see why Ben could make his conclusion. You need to move outside the box of Mustang+MT82 forums and research to decide if a T56 or TR6060 is THAT much better or if it has its own failure rates, and if there is just another GO TO person that rebuilds and services those other trans more than Ben so you can get a better picture.

I know PLENTY of guys on other platforms (Vettes, Camaros, CTSV's, Challengers (3rd gen), vipers) that will say a stock T56 or TR6060 isnt THAT great of a trans and they all plan to upgrade them to push serious power (above 700whp).

Yet most folks on this and other Mustang forums think a stock T56 is good to 1000whp reliably. Not sure what makes the s550+T56 swap handle so much more power than other T56 setups?

Tremec makes several models of the TR 6060 and publishes the torque specs for each. Hellcat appears to run a heavier duty version of the 6060 than the R/T and SRT.
