Back in the mid 90's, a GT could be had OTD for what... $27k or so? And the Supra closer to $40k? $40k is a lot of money back then for something impractical. Not very hard to figure out why sales wise it was a failure.

The new Supra will probably start at $50k.
Mid 90's a GT ran MSRP of $18k.

WOW! Yeah, I found a really cool Car and Driver article about the 1996MY Mustang GT and Cobra. '96MY was the first year of the 4.6L V8.

http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/1996-ford-mustang-gt-archived-instrumented-test-review

Looks like the '96 GT started at $19,500, and the '96 Cobra started at $26,000. That's some amazing value. The '96 Supra Turbo started at $40,000.

No wonder the Supra failed. You could buy yourself a '96 Cobra and save yourself $14,000 instead of buying the Supra. From looking up 0-60 and 1/4 mile times to compare, it's looking like the Supra was about a half second faster on the 0-60 and 1/4 mile.

Here are some interesting inflation numbers. Mustang GT sold for about 13K in 1988, the Supra was about 21K (24K for Turbo) and a Camry was about 11K. Adjusted for inflation the Camry would be 22.6K today, which it actually is (well, 23K). The Mustang GT would be about 26K and the Supra would be about 44K. We don't know what Supra pricing will be, but the Camry is the only one priced right in line with inflation.

That 96 Cobra would be $41K today, the base GT would be $31K.

For starters, your $47k loaded 2017 =/= a loaded 2018.
I paid $37,750 for my 2016 GT Premium with black accent package. With everything in my signature maybe another $5,000 so $42,750 all in but I haven't actually added it all up but it's way less than $47,000,

Good luck finding a 2017 GT350 for sticker let alone under 60k
Yeah I built out a loaded GT Premium, Mag ride, GT PP V1, a few other options (uploaded audio) and it was $48K, and a gt350 with the electronics package was ~$61K (MSRP).

$13K is not trivial for a lot of folks and that's a straight MSRP comparison, I'd bet in the real world, and typical discounts, you're looking at more of a $16K-18K difference.

If you add in the 10-speed auto, the GT pushes $50K, but then it's Apples ~n~ Oranges, someone mentioned a loaded convertible as a price comparison, that's like Apple ~n~ Bricks. :D

Im not really in a very good location to be looking for GT350s since im on active duty in Wash DC but there are tons of them out here forsale trouble is they all have 3k minimum ADM on them. I refuse to pay a penny ADM.

Was at Koons Ford in Falls Church again yesturday and some dude was just finishing up paperwork on an Avalanche Grey GT350 with no stripes. According to the website that one had a 5k markup. :headbonk:

Where in the hell are the instrumented magazine reviews of the 2018?

Im interested in the A10s and since the GT350s are still marked up i havnt pulled the trigger on anything yet.

My 2016 triple yellow 5.0 can just keep sitting in the garage for now.

That is one of the reasons I ordered what was one of the LAST 2017 GT's built. I loaded it and got it for less than $40K. The Ford discounts were going away and the 2018 price was going up.
Really thought about waiting for the MagnaRide shocks. Have you looked at what those cost to replace?

I will say this. What is on the internet pricing and the sheet is different for what you pay when you are sitting in front of them. For example I will use myself.

My GT350 Tech pack Black roof was marked up to 73.5k. I went in with our auto adviser and after we sat down with people, I walked out 2k under MSRP and no dealer fee's. So to everyone else there that day they thought I paid the ADM. But for a few who were in the loop, they know I did not pay anywhere near that.

Its all about sticking to what you want and how your going to pay. Also who your speaking to. Smart dealers, and I do mean smart dealers are not going to turn down good credit and money in hand to have a vehicle sit in their showroom for who knows how long.

The same will be for 18's. Sure they may start out crazy, but in very short order they will be selling like every other year of Mustangs.

Well yeah, but that's kind of irrelevant because getting a good deal is common sense for car shopping in general.

Bottom line is even the base MSRP is getting kind of ridiculous, imo. Ford is making a great car that's probably worth the money, don't get me wrong there, but I always saw the Mustang as something with a cheap point of entry. In 4 years the absolute base price has gone up $2,250. If that trend continues it will only take 8 years for the Mustang to START at over $30,000.

Smh... comparing mid-90s and early 2000s msrp to msrp on a Mustang now. Stupid comparison. The mid-90s and 2000s Mustangs looked like s#&@, inside and out. Because of this, they were priced appropriately. The Mustangs now actually look good, inside and out. Also, priced appropriately. If you want nice things, prepare to pay the nice price.

No one was comparing mid 90's prices to now. Mid 90's Mustang GT & Cobra prices were being compared to mid-90's Supra prices showing why the Supra priced themselves out of the market and died ($26,000 for a brand new '96 Cobra vs $40,000 for a brand new '96 Supra, both of which ran almost identical times). Completely different conversation.

Personally, I'll probably be moving up to a vette the next time I buy a new car. Love the mustang, but the performance per $ just isn't there anymore for me. I don't need the 4 seats anyway, and the backseats on my current stang were removed long ago and a rollbar now stands in their place.

The depreciation will still probably be pretty bad for either car since honestly to me it seems like I see about as many corvettes as mustang GTs.

Edit: Typos.

A new Camaro 1SS is a performance per $ beast. It absolutely smokes Mustang GTs on a drag and a track, and even compares to a GT350.
