Rear Tire Recommendations for Procharged 16GT...

When I installed the Procharger last month, I pulled the trigger on a pair of Nitto NT05R drag radials in the 305/35-19 size. I have them installed on 19x11 GT350 replicas. They look good and from my limited testing seem to hold pretty well in second on up. The problem is that these things do not really handle worth a crap. They are a little wobbly at higher speeds and do not react well to a panic maneuver. Not to mention that they are questionable in the rain. Car now has 275/40-19 Firehawk Indy 500 tires on 19x10" GT350 Replicas on the front.

Thinking about pulling the DR's off the rear and reserving for drag strip. I want to replace them with good high performance summer tires. Here is what I am looking at:

- MPSS in 305/35-19: The Tire Rack has these for $267 each right now, which is a pretty good deal on what may be the best all around tire.
- Firehawk Indy 500 in 325/30-19: Matches the front. A bit wider, but will still fit. However slightly shorter than the front tires. They do not make a 305/35-19 in this tire. These are on national back order but are $259.99 once they are available.
- Do nothing and if I survive until the NT05R's wear out, buy something different then.

Which would you do? Any other suggestions?

i just went from NT05(non R) to the new MPS4S tires with 325/30/19 on the rear yesterday. and they are miles better in every way. i have dropped the beans in first or 3rd yet since but they just feel more planted.

I would go for the MPSS, given your constraints, as much as I like the Indy 500. And yes, drag radials don't handle worth a crap. FYI, Nitto does make NT05 (not R) which are more of a performance summer tire, not a drag radial. Those still won't be great in comparison to the MPSS or PS4S.

For the 19x11 you have

305/35/19 MPSS or 325/30/19 MPSS or MPS4S will work well.

All out I would say Toyo R888 tires thats what we run on our 1200+ WHP Shop Mustang on Forgestar wheels

Agree with that. Definitely an amazing tire but don't expect much life in a daily driver. I do 30-40 miles each way every day and while they still had tread left, the number of heat cycles they go through means they get dry and brittle pretty quick. Mine lasted 5-6 months.

Oh no not at all they dont last long but hell they stick.

Ended up going with the MPSS in 305/35ZR19. Tire Rack lowered the price again to $269 each and it was a 15 minute drive to pick them up from their warehouse. Hopefully will get them mounted later this afternoon or tomorrow morning.
