 because some ex FA20DET owner is going to post and argue everything I say that's shitty about the engine. I'll say how the EJ is a better engine and some angry ex Sti owner will argue how he blew up his engine. It never occurs to them that they did it wrong and followed nasiocs bullshit guide to modding. Or he'll cry it was stock and I'll have to remind him 5.0s have died stock nothing is fool proof. I have been trying to avoid posting in it. Contrary to popular belief around here I don't always want to argue and set people straight. Sometimes is tiring. :lol:mustang_guy How have you ignored this one... ?
I already suggested the golf r. Those things are fast stock, but a simple tune can make them fast as hell.I 2nd the VW GTI as an option...other than the Subie is AWD, the VW is a better looking car, inside and out and can be tuned-up.....or you can drop STI money for an AWD Golf R.
Another bonus is that VW values have been down due to the TDI issue and deals can be found. Some my talk about spotty VW reliability but I've owned 4 (1 Jetta, 1 GLI, 1 Golf TDI and current Golf TSI) and all have been dead-reliable....far better than the 1 Outback I owned.
Iconic, schmonic. Heritage this, heritage that. A car is meant to be driven. Who cares about all that heritage crap. The best car for the job is the one you should go with. You shouldn't buy a car based off how much history it has.Good car the WRX - but Mustang is iconic - its an experience every time I drive it. In time the WRXs will be gone but there will still be Mustangs vintage and new.
My bone stock STI knocked constantly under load. I had it at the dealership twice and they kept telling me nothing was wrong. It actually knocked slightly less with a Cobb tune. I just didn't trust running the Cobb tune in the event the engine finally let go. I have no experience with the Coyote engine, but I know the S197 4.6L never really had an issue like I saw commonly happening on the STIs. Of course every automotive line will have some one-off quality issues. The STI just has them at a much higher rate with the late EJ25. Coming from the engine development world, I feel that they have pushed the engine too far for current emissions regulations. I don't think the EJs are specifically weak (aside from the 2008), but the tuning and fuel controller seem to be far too sensitive. I got tired of the damn thing pulling timing and eventually traded it in. I agree that many Subaru (and even Mustang) owners mod without doing proper research, but victim blaming isn't always an honest approach. We owned 2 EJ25 vehicles before the 2011 STI. We had a 2006 and a 2007 WRX, both of which were open source tuned. Neither one had knocking or detonation issues. because some ex FA20DET owner is going to post and argue everything I say that's shitty about the engine.
