^But yours is still a seldom score, right? Many R buyers I met, even in recent times, spent from 10k over to even over 20k ADM's. All have zero regrets though and all could afford paying the premiums.... but each still had a ceiling to spend.

I know I got lucky on my deal as well which is another reason I jumped on my R back in April. Plus I hardly lost much on my Focus RS trade in... msrp on it was 36.6k and my trade in (with 8500 miles) was 35k plus the tax advantage.
The 2K score, yes, absolutely. However there are many reports of people on this forum who have gotten similar 5K deals.

I explained my perspective in my HR 361 intro. If you don't want to deal with the logistics of delivery or having to make it your life's obsession to find a near MSRP deal, then you probably won't. I said it before, and I reiterate.... ADM is a convenience fee as well as a market adjustment. They will go up and they will go down. Living in the bay area, where even Oakland real estate prices are going through the roof, everything costs more. I am not surprised to hear folks from that area say that prices have not come down...... because they haven't. Micro/macro economies all influence the asking prices as well as the bottom line, what any particular person pays at the end of the day.

My track record so far (no pun intended)
12/15 MSRP on a track pack
07/17 2K on a TY R electronics pkg
08/28 5K on a AG R electronics pkg (VIN assigned, estimated build date)

Maybe (and not directed to you) is that people don't like hearing that prices are coming down when they just paid a hefty ADM. My posts are not in your face, but what I believe to be factual. I worked very hard on the deals I made. I am not saying that these deals are commonplace. Anyone who is looking has to be persistent over the course of a year or more. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I recently paid $5K ADM, FWIW. Car had been sitting about 5 weeks at the dealer. Wasn't easy, but I was persistent AND patient.

Agree, many of us have called out of state dealers for months, and yes some lower priced ones can be scored, but usually not the color combo in the most desirable colors and this is all ex- transportation costs, registration, emissions, which are meaningful for CA buyers.

Also, various car websites and eBay auction prices will reflect reality, there is no such thing as two separate markets in a world of arbitrage where an ADM could represent 20%-30% of MSRP. When average prices go down, they will on the websites/auctions as well.

^But yours is still a seldom score, right? It's not a regular norm...

I'm aware of the same RubyRR car since my friend was interested and his highest offer and upper limit of 10k over was shot down repeatedly.

My recent R purchase was negotiated at a 2K over cash sale. I decided to do a 51K trade in.

My next R purchase is at 5K ADM.

Prices are dropping, maybe not at the bay area, but how else do you explain? I wouldn't say pathetic.

I can see getting lucky once, but twice? Please....
Tomster while we know your deals were great, I still doubt they are indicative of the overall market. A car forum always only represents a small microcosm of a market.

For ages now it seems as if each week there's a thread that gets started related to pricing. And in each thread everyone either posts about:
1. how they found their respective car
2. about dealers they know charging insane amounts
3. the recent price drop someone got or saw that now indicates the entire market is changing
4. their personal theories on when ADM will end
5. the random non-GT350 owner who drops in just to say he had a chance to buy one but wants to teach us why he didn't and is actually happier with his better car.
Then the thread gets pushed to the bottom, and another starts. And so on. And still the ADM's remain.

IF ford builds 300 more to finish the 1000 for '17 and goes and does another 1000 or more for '18 - and the next SE comes. I have a good feeling there will be many msrp deals coming for late 18. Wait it out - good things come to those who wait.

If ford only builds a couple hundred for '18...prices may stay around 5 to 10k adm.

I would point out that out of all the people who are interested in purchasing an R, you will find a large number of them here, on these forums. Good statistics is dependent upon a valid sample of the population. I suggest the validity of this forum as a sample because the majority consist of enthusiasts such as yourself.

Where I disagree with you is that prices have fallen. Back when I was shopping for my first gt350, ADM's were 15-20k for standard (track and tech packs). A little over a year ago, those values fell and now it is commonplace to see sales of non R's at MSRP.

Although the R is still commanding ADM's, I can say honestly that in my searches those ADM'S have come down. What used to be 25k ADM'S in certain markets are now down around 10-15k. Weaker markets 10-5k.

I feel I can report on these things because I have been active in my searches for quite a long time. Furthermore, I am putting my money where my mouth is. I am buying because I do see a value at the price levels that I am buying.

Anyway, I hear you and understand your perspective. As long as the local dealer has the sought after R that someone with a lot of discressionary income is willing to spend, then there is your new (high side) baseline or benchmark. Then there is me. Somewhere in between you will probably find more median values.

My personal experience is that I ordered my R in August 2015 and picked it up June 2016. $5k over. Walked in to the closest dealer to my house.

I knew I was lucky but didn't realize how lucky until a friend of mine, based on my example of price and availability, decided to "just go out and buy an R". He's still doesn't have one and it's not for lack of trying. He's come across a few $10k offers but to his credit, he refuses to buy a car that isn't the exact spec and color he wants. He got 1 $5k offer but it was contingent on a trade in, so it wasn't "really" $5k. He even put his name on lists last year, with dealers promising him he could order a 2018 to spec - but when reaching back out to those dealers, they are either not willing to order for him or they tell him someone else is on the list before him.

Like with many things in life, being in the right place at the right time is how this is done. Persistence will definitely increase your odds by technically being in more places at the same time :)

As Tomster has said, the typical, obtainable price seems to have wavered a bit. 1 year ago, $20k was very common...and while it's still a common ask price, it seems like a larger percentage of dealers might accept $10k from a serious buyer. However, the title of this thread suggests they are just sitting at MSRP waiting for people to scoop them up - and that's complete BS.

Very true and well said.

Found a ZL1 at $9K under sticker on Autotrader in less than a minute the other day. The problem with that is how much more can you go?? $12k under? $15K under?
At least with an R we all know the end game....MSRP.
Good luck with your search Roy.
Yes, I saw that. Was that Bomnin in FL. That is a lie too.

After having a Tech Pack, if I could get one for "close to it" then that would be good enough. It would have to be an R or nothing. Color, does not matter too much.

And the thread does say, "could be" not is. Just have to research and call.

So, if I find an R for $5k ADM and it is too far for me, are you going to say that no one here would buy it?

Don't forget the R owners that bought their R's at MSRP... seems to be a lot of them on here. Those guys are all much more savvy than everyone else that had to pay over! :)
