So, at long last my V5 arrived today for my Mustang which I picked up on 1 April. As discussed at length on here, I wanted the car registered on 1 April to take advantage of the lower new VED rates. The paperwork supplied by my dealer when I picked up confirmed the car was registered on 1 April.

Yet on the V5 document it states the car has been registered on 31 March. I double checked on the DVLA webite and the car will be ÂŁ535 a year to tax. To say I am pissed off would be an understatement.

I have tried to call the dealer this evening, but there was only one sales person left who couldn't offer much help but has assured me it will be looked as as a priority first thing tomorrow.

Not sure what my options are from here, so would appreciate any advice from those of you have any knowledge of these matters. But ultimately, if the car registration date can't be amended, I don't want it.

Out of interest did you pay more for your car before you picked it up to cover the rise in VED? If not... then they probably have you by the balls and not much you can do?

Yes I did, and the invoice clearly states the extra VED was paid

Did you pay the lower or higher rate of VED for 1st year including 1st registration? It should show on your invoice. Either ÂŁ1200 or ÂŁ2000.

If they charged the latter then it should have been an April reg. If the former they did it on the 31st to get their numbers in. I had a problem with my dealer in that they registered it on 31st May which was my collection day but I had it in writing they could do a full year and a day's tax so I wouldn't lose out and pay a whole month's tax for 1 day. Surprised I was when my renewal came through a month before I expected it. I called them and they refunded me but I can't see how they will change this as if you keep it for a long time the difference in tax will be massive.

I think your only option is going to be rejecting the car and handing it back. The contract on the car is not what you ordered if you have it in writing for a 1st April reg and collected on 1st April.

Then that's fraud, if you're going to be taxed the same and they've made you fork up for the changes that's a Ombudsman/General manager level of complaint at a minimum.

Damn. Mander's beat me to that bit. If you paid the ÂŁ2k initial VED then its their problem. Tell them to sort it or reject the car and hand it back for a full refund. It is not what you ordered or expected.

Going to see what they say tomorrow, but if it's not possible to change retrospectively, I will be asking them to source me a brand new unregistered replacement.

Damn right they should be... I doubt they'll change reg date, totally against government policies more than anything. They've ripped you off as well.. pulled your pants down and all!:ninja:

It's slightly complicated because I have a private plate on the car, so not immediately obvious the car was registered on the wrong date. You can only check for sure once you have the ref on the V5

As others have already said, if you paid the ÂŁ2000 and agreed to a 1st April pick up then your dealer is pretty much committing fraud and you should go direct to the dealer GM at a minimum. I would be ripping someone a new one.:paddle:

Regardless, it's bad on their part, tried to pull a fast one on you

What people have said already is the course of action you need to take. Speak to them tomorrow, get to the bottom of it. One thing is for sure, I don't think DVLA will change the date of registeration.

If you are a fan of the 2018, could hold out and order one of those.

Havi g said all that. This is unacceptable.

I would be in tears. Honestly.

Hang in there fella.

Cant get answers until tomorrow, don't get too stressed out for now. Good thing is that on your invoice you have been charged for the post April rules which adds weight to your case.

If you have anything in writing I.e. Email telling them you wanted it registered in April. Perfect.

I would say it's unbelievable but as we've come to realise, it's not. Chances are different people dealt with different areas of the car purchase and they've messed it up. It is their mess to fix at least. Wouldn't have made any difference if you'd not had a private plate as the registrations change in March so it would have been a 17 on either the 31/3 or the 1/4.
Gutted for you, but hopefully they'll be able to sort something, though goodness knows what :tsk:
