Unless you have loud exhaust most people can't hear ya.

I find myself revving the engine to either warn other drivers of my location or to prevent an accident. I blip it real quick to 3k just enough so they'll hear the noise, but not enough to sound like I'm being aggressive. I figure it's a bit nicer to rev the engine to make somewhere aware of a situation than to honk. Anyone else do this or am I being rude?
I don't typically honk or rev when I'm trying to avoid an accident, I think either distracts from any meaningful avoidance. I rev to get people to look, which works, only when I need them to look, not when I need to do something like avoid a collision. This is stupid, first of all, use the horn to alert drivers of your location, that is its purpose and therefore will be interpreted correctly.
Second, reving the engine while driving is dangerous as it involves engagement of the clutch during a so called accident prevention manuever.
And third, it's just stupid.
The laws of physics don't cease to exist because in your mind it's quicker to rev the engine over honking the horn. I guarantee it is always quicker and safer to blow the horn over engagement of the clutch and throttle to rev the engine at speed. The horn is strategically placed to make it that way.To me revving is quicker than honking. My exhaust is loud enough that there is no question who is doing it. I have been behind someone and honked and they looked all over the place for who did it. When I blip my throttle they always look right at me.
да товарищAlternatively you could just hang your Draco AK47 out of the window and fire a few rounds into the air. That'll get their attention real quick eh comrade?
I didn't think it could get any dumber but you proved me.wrong. Honking is as.dangerous as.clutch engagement and reving the engine? Really.I don't typically honk or rev when I'm trying to avoid an accident, I think either distracts from any meaningful avoidance. I rev to get people to look, which works, only when I need them to look, not when I need to do something like avoid a collision.
And most people don't interpret a honk as an alert to your location as designed, they interpret it as a hostile gesture. I don't agree that it's right that they do, but much like the internet, people become royal a**holes while in the protection of their own car. Maybe not true for all of you, but where I live, it's easier to avoid the conflict with a rev which doesn't seem to carry the negative results in my area.
Also the argument could be made that it's just as dangerous to honk since your hands aren't in the optimal position to control your vehicle, so...
I don't get that middle part at all. Please explain. This is stupid, first of all, use the horn to alert drivers of your location, that is its purpose and therefore will be interpreted correctly.

Means you wanna be able to get out a situation if accelerating is needed instead of clutch in disconnecting power.I don't get that middle part at all. Please explain.
Nah bro, he is likely a pro driver and can quickly drop the clutch and do a sweet drift (because track mode.because race car) out of the danger zone. Watch out for the white paint, though.Means you wanna be able to get out a situation if accelerating is needed instead of clutch in disconnecting power.
Still makes no sense. The examples of the use of engine revving I've read here has been while stopped or coming to a stop. And even if you're on the move, it still makes no sense. Taking 1 second to rev your engine doesn't create any safety issue.Means you wanna be able to get out a situation if accelerating is needed instead of clutch in disconnecting power.
Smart person right here. The top of your list is the most important IMO. Hate driving with my friends and they let at most maybe a car length before the person in front of them and brake at the very last moment because they don't look past the car directly in front.I think revving the engine only generates benefits in the revvers imagination.
35 years of slicing quietly through traffic I haven't had many problems if you follow some simple rules.
Don't tailgate
Stay out of blind spots
Always signal
Change lanes slowly
No matter the problems, keep driving like business, cool and methodical. Emotions are for bitches.
Wow, and I thought you weren't just being a d*ck, but I guess we're both wrong...I didn't think it could get any dumber but you proved me.wrong. Honking is as.dangerous as.clutch engagement and reving the engine? Really.
You can rev the engine all you want but it will never be a better option than using the horn to alert other drivers of a problem. You rev to get attention and that is fine but it will never be the best option for avoiding an accident. Just say you want attention and leave it at that.
