It's tough when it's cold out to get the temps above 170! I was out the other day and it was 65...and it took me 5th gear for 10 miles and a couple 4-5k pulls to get near 190. 75 to 80 degrees is the magic number with this cars set up.

We WANT temps to be around 190 before we stomp on it. What's the max temps we should be concerned with 220?
220 is nothing. LS's run 220's on a frequent basis putt putting around. On track you see up in the 240's.

You can thank the big ass radiator and engine oil cooler for that. Guess you could always do the ol' card board trick ; )

Agree , I have a 2017 and I see 220's all day long normal driving. Hotter weather = hotter oil temps. When I really got on it I have seen it up to 235.

I have a feeling I'll be doing it this fall. Should have done it already. I haven't seen more than 208 so far. Track it or run it hard on a hot day and I'm sure it will be boiling :)

Ive got some .04 plastic shim stock laying around. I'll cut shape out and zip tie it in for the remainder of cool weather. Break it out in the fall when it cools down.

Gotta watch dealers. Most dealers have a "house oil" that they have huge barrels of and like to use in everything. I know a guy at a local dealer who asks me specifically if I'd like "their" oil or bring my own.

The limit before the car goes into limp mode is 300 degrees Fahrenheit. If you track your car it's normal to see 250-260 degrees. As long as you do frequent oil changes when the oil gets that hot you're fine. I haven't tracked the 350 much but on my Boss 302 I changed it every 4 track days or about 6-8 hours of track time. I'll do the same thing on the GT350. In the Boss oil temps got upwards of 270 because the oil to water cooler that was no wear near as efficient as the cooler on the 350. My buddy with a Z06 sees 290 degrees every time he tracks the car with no issues. Just change your oil more frequently like I said and you're fine.

Ambient temps have a significant effect on time to reach 190+ on oil temps from my experience. 15-20 degrees ambient deliver quite a different result. 220 is pretty consistent on track. Hit 230+ on the dyno..that 5th gear pull is a long pull to redline.

Update: Some numbers from this morning.

Cold Start (Idle):
Temp-66F
OP-100 PSI
OT-84F

Warm Idle (after 7 mile/30 minute surface street drive, some traffic):
Temp-63F
OP-50PSI
OT-203F

I'm no engineer/expert but seems normal to me. After all the responses, I should only be concerned when it gets to mid to high 200s with street driving. Thanks all.

With 65 temps outside mine won't get any higher than 195 unless I'm getting on it some.
So you checked the receipt and oil looks fairly thick and at the right level? I guess it sounds ok...still higher heat than I would get. Op looks good tho

Yeah receipt shows 5W50 oil. Oil feels thick, don't have another type to compare too but yes checked again yesterday still right below the top hole.

So much for Ford taking the time to develop and document specs for the oil
