if your not going to the drag strip and launching the car, you should be fine, if you plan on a stickey and launching, you want half shafts

I agree with Whatsup, even on stock tires with stock power and i know, especially with the pzeros or any summer performance tire wheel hop is a real issue and will take out an axle in a hearbeat.Weather u have a 1000hp or a 100hp get the wheelhop fixed first.Drag radials will help with alot of the hop but will not cure it all.

what if i launch it accidentally on the street?
Can this even happen? That's almost like saying I accidentally had sex a guy, 2 girls, and a midget??? well, maybe if you are drunk in Vegas...

Then you should sell the car and drive a Prius.

You will not get enough traction on the street even WITH drag radials to do anything to the half shafts.
Agreed. You really need a prepped surface with slicks or drag radials of some kind in order to generate enough force or wheel hop onto the halfshafts to shred them.

BUT

Exceeding the specs on the stock half shafts can and will reduce their life over time. But, you shouldn't get a catastrophic failure. Instead, you might have to replace them at say 100,000 miles or when the seals start leaking. But again, it would be a relatively long time coming. I've ran several boosted and blown 2015-2017 5.0s on stock half shafts on the street and have had no issues at all. My drag cars do get replaced half shafts (vertical links, springs, et. al.).

Never say never... with drag radials and drastically reduced tire pressure along with some ballast in the trunk... a person can pull the wheels up off the ground in a no prep situation...

But you have to REALLY TRY HARD to do it and it isn't something that will happen accidentally :headbonk:

If you can get stock for $120, do whatever you want, order a few spares and change them as you break them lol. Unless you're trying to be ultra competitive then yeah, durability is more key.

if your manual and already thinking of spending the $400 i would jsut bite the bullet and get the dss shafts either the 800 or 1400hp ones...ive had excellent luck and longevety out of my stock halfshafts...ive been on 305/45/17 drag radials and cut a best 1.33 60' on my last pass of the season but im auto....im stepping up to the 1400hp shafts soon and retiring mine before they decide to say enough is enough...

You can also just visually inspect the seals. Generally, GENERALLY, you get a failure after you start getting seepage. Usually not before, unless you wheel hop the bejesus out of them. You can extend the longevity of those by killing the wheel hop with upgraded vertical links (which are much cheaper than replacing the half shafts). I've been using the Steeda vertical links. They're a tad noisier but wheel hop is almost a non-issue.
