Tesla style head unit for the S550?

It's a RockChip RKPX3, and I'm still working on the sample, but they're super spotty on communication with the holiday there. They were quite blunt about the fact they don't give a damn about customer satisfaction when they said they don't care about fixing anything, because they're still selling them and people won't go through the hassle of returns to China.

That's kinda selfish what they're doing...:tsk: I wonder if they patent it...? we could all work together to make that unit a little better and provide customer service for the members of this forum to start... I'll do my best to help y'all out without having the unit though! :cheers:

I am not terribly surprised. I have manufacturers in Beijing, Seoul, Shanghai, etc. Pretty standard attitude there. I am constantly fixing issues that the manufacturer made, but we are responsible for. Stupid. I'll see what sort of back channels I have. But if they're giving you that sort of push back, I doubt I will have much luck.

They don't bother patenting. Simply because it's too expensive and they just copy each other anyway. I know from experience. lol.

I've talked to a couple other manufacturers, and they're offering a unit that is $500, but it's a 10" HORIZONTAL layout instead, and maintains physical HVAC buttons. They have been super helpful, but I'm not sure if that's what people here want.

Now THAT is something I'd be interested in. I'm surprised they can fit a 10" screen horizontally, I'd image it would a tight fight. Any pictures of this??

I've seen 10" screen on and it's not too bad. However if it's the one I think of. The software is worse than the Tesla unit... It's like buying a car. It's always good to buy a car from them but then the day you have issues with it then they don't know you anymore...

Someone here on the forums has it and hes pretty happy with it, he did mention the sound quality got a little worse though.
