Getting quotes for the Whipple install and my blood pressure's going up. :frusty:A local shop representative quoted me $1300 for Stage 2 install, no mods. If even one mod has been done to the car, like exhaust, which mine has, there's an additional $1300 charge for custom tune. In addition, I told the gentleman I wanted to have the OPG's, CS and damper installed in conjunction with the Whipple. He told me that the motor needs to be completely removed from the vehicle because,"the oil pump is behind the timing cover on the front of the motor."????? Obviously, I didn't ask for that quote because it ain't happen'in. We have guys on here doing the OPG's in car.

Anyone have a different perspective or can justify why a Tuning shop would make such a suggestion?

Immediately cut off all communications with that shop.. Well, wait until after you call them back laughing in their faces.

Some one here will be able to point you to a good shop. Where in Cali are you?

Wrong wrong wrong. That shop is 100% lying to you. The motor does NOT need to be pulled for that work. I think I paid $1300 for headers, Whipple, OPG, sprocket, and balancer.

That's kinda what I was thinking Hissman! However, this shop, which I won't name, was on a short list of recommendations from Whipple. In no way am I trying to put down Whipple. They were trying to help. Probably just naming shops that they know of in my area. I was trying to do due diligence and shop for quotes. Originally got a $3000 quote from a Ford dealership, for everything (Whipple, OPG, CS, damper), but I wanted to look around and see if that's the norm.

I'm a short distance from Livermore. Central Cali.

Find a new shop. They either dont know what they are doing, and i wouldnt give them my money; or they know what they are doing and are trying to screw you out of money, and i wouldnt give them my money.

Please do us all a favor and call Whipple and advise them of their recommended shops price gouging and miss information tactics. Whipple would want to know for sure.

I paid $1750 just for install plus $175 dyno pull just to verify all was good since using Whipple calibration. I know I got ripped off but wanted the warranty so didn't have many choices.

Hind sight easy install I would do it myself and not worry about warranty, great product and safe tune.

These shops charge roughly $200 hr, supply and demand but good old American GREED does not make it right..

just sayin :(

Thanks for the info SmokedSS. I'm really cheap, so if I felt comfortable doing it, I think I would. This might be one of those cases where I pay up front but it saves me in the long run. I did my AirLift, after calling for install prices and it came out great. But the last time I did engine work like this, I owned a 70' Camaro. Done swaps on my old '86 C-10, but this is a whole different ball of wax IMO. Most of my reluctance comes from my inexperience with mustangs, being technology challenged and a fear of jacking up my DD. My tool cache isn't the best either. Would feel more comfortable if I had a set of experienced eyes guiding me through the install. We'll see though. Maybe I'll take some vacation, so I don't have to rush, and do it myself.

The Whipple instructions are great and step by step, if you could instal your air ride yourself you could instal the Whipple and do OPG nad timing gear. Many here will help you out. I will personally give you my number and be available for questions, phone calls and Tech talk. I've done OPG and timing gear twice and Whipple instal 2 times as well on my car. Don't be shy to ask for help it's out there and I will be your phone a friend so to speak:thumbsup:

gsxr1300, about 4 hours. Spoke to Mike at Whipple about them doing it, and he said that they only provide installation services if you buy the kit directly from them. I guess they don't have means to do a ton of local installs, so they just provide that option only for people buying kits from them.
