I recently had some suspension mods installed by a local but reputable performance shop. however i now have a clunking type sound coming from the front end while driving.
it seems to be coming from the wheels and is suspension related for sure. the sounds actually sound like the front is bottoming out and doesnt have enough travel to absorb bumps on certain parts of the road while driving. the weird part is it is more pronounced at lower speeds. if i go real slow over bumpy pavement its clearly clunking n clanking, but while driving speed limit it doesnt seem to be there unless i hit really bad pavement.

what i had suspension wise previous to these noises was CJPP drop springs with base model GT shocks n struts. love the stance of the cj springs and they ride well, i had absolutely zero noise or issues for over a year on just the springs. my car is a DD and doesnt see track use of either kind.

the mods i had installed was toe links , vertical links , sway bars front and rear with billet mounts , a cradle lockout and non adjustable shocks and struts suitable for lower vehicles.

now to the unknown variable... the shop that installed the shocks n struts forgot to install the dust covers ( boots ) and bump stops from the factory ones onto the new ones. could the absence of the bump stops be the cause or reason for these noises? im pretty sure the shop tossed the old parts so going back to get the old stuff put back on doesnt seem to be an option.
i did have the car aligned a week after install and also had everything looked over to make sure it was tightened correctly and everything was secure. all appears to be so i dont think its something along those lines.

if its not the bumpstops do you think its possible i got a bad set of struts and they are blown out or defective from the manufacturer?

im kinda at a loss as to what to do with it now. it doesnt seem to affect handling or drive-ability, just irritating as i had no noises before the shocks and struts got swapped out.

Could be your sway bar EndLinks.torque them down to 85lbs. You should definatly get some pump stops on your struts. You can buy the FRPP shorter and softer ones or use factory bump stops and trim

Some aftermarket springs actually ride on the bump stops like the Sportlines and that is why they include bump stops in the kit to achieve the correct spring rate and ride.

I just saw that you are using cjpp springs. They include new bump stops so you need to install them back on. Cjpp springs are made by eibach and the front drop is 1.5 inches and you need the correct bump stops in order not to bottom out and achieve the correct spring rate.

yea that was along my line of thinking too. however steeda sells some adjustable bumpstops and im think those will work.

the kick in the dick is this will be the 3rd time messing with the struts and 4th alignment.

Also, with Cjpp springs your front strut will always be riding your bump stop. That is how they are designed. I still think you should get the Cjpp/eibach bump stops and torque the front EndLinks to 85lbs.

Don't worry, I am at maybe 20 strut/shock/coilover/springs install and over 20 alignments on my car only. Lol

Check your strut shaft nuts too. They will definitely clunk if not torqued correctly - ask me how I know.

thanks for the info. i had a feeling that was the issue as really only thing that changed was the missing bump stops.

Steeda now makes a set of adjustable bump stops that seem to work really well I lowered cars. Love mine.

yea, thats my first check, but im near positive itll be the bumpstops...simply because there are none now with the noise and there wasnt any noise when they were present. but im also thinking top nut on the struts.

im more irritated then anything....pay a professional shop to do work and end up getting results i could've achieved in my own drive way on jack stands with my novice mechanic skills...

just wanted to say thanks Niz55, you were spot on, the original shop not only forgot to install my bump stops and dust covers but the end links connecting to the sway bars were loose as well. that was the cause of my noise.
I took it to a different shop to get the replacement parts installed and as soon as he removed the links from the struts they just swung down. weren't even snug much less torqued to 85.

all good now and silent as it should be.

Great news! Usually it's the strut nut or end links not torqued properly.
