I was always a GM guy, Pontiac to be more precise. (see avatar) I rented a Camaro SS when I was out of town and it didn't do anything for me. It was fun and fast, but didn't leave a lasting impression. Next time I rented a Mustang Ecoboost Premium. (GT wasn't available for rent) I wasn't thrilled about the Ecoboost but drivetrain aside, it's the same as the GT Premium. I never saw myself in a Mustang but within a day of having that car I was in love. It just felt wrong as I was always against Mustangs being a GM guy and wanting to have a car that wasn't a dime a dozen. That car changed my mind and I've been on this forum since waiting for the day I buy mine.

If you haven't yet, go drive both and see what you think. Persoanlly the Mustang just feels right to me. I think it's a better looking car, much better visibility, and the interior is nice and comfortable. It's all personal taste but to me the interior in the new Camaro is meh and I don't care for the exterior either.

Can't tell you which way to go but this is my experience. This long time GM guy will be buying a GT Premium with the performance package this spring. It'll be parked in the garage right beside my '67 GTO. :headbang:

Thank you all for the responses. I was actually leaning towards the mustangs, it just hurts a little being a gm guy lol.
Don't feel bad.
My dad was a die hard gm guy. When he retired he wanted a toy (2013). So he was going to buy a camaro and I drug him kicking and screaming to ford. He bought a new mustang 2 days later.

If I could afford it I would have went with the new 17 camaro 2SS with the 1LE package. It's pretty much a ZL1 without the supercharger. Although I do love my stang...

The looks of the 6G Camaro never thrilled me, but a few weeks back I saw one with stripes at a certain angle and thought it looked pretty good. I wondered if the stripes maybe made its lines more visible, and I could see the shape better. It just looked a lot more sporty to me than others I'd seen (there's an RS down the street, and the overall shape always looked a little plain to me).

A few days later they had the auto show downtown, so while I was there I took the opportunity to sit in a Camaro again. I think it was a 1LE, and I was reminded about how unpleasant of a place the interior is for me. The seats cut into my rear (I have fairly tight Recaros in my current Mustang and never had that issue, so I wonder if the seats had to be made smaller for the Camaro or something), the visibility, as everyone says, was appallingly bad, and I just didn't like the overall feel.

I'm 6' 1" and about 225, and it just wasn't very comfortable. At the same show I sat in a Mustang with stock seats, and was surprised at how comfortable and supportive they were. Of course visibility was better, and while I liked the layout of the interior a little better than the Camaro, I don't recall being really impressed by it.

I think because it's going to be a daily driver, the Mustang is probably the better choice, for all of the reasons mentioned here already (better visibility, better trunk access, more comfortable interior, etc.).

It's all personal preference, of course, but that's my take on the two of them.

Drive them both. One will speak to you and will be a clear winner. If not, look at different cars.

Camaro visibility sucks. Go with the Mustang.

...For power stock for stock clearly the camaro wins due to its power to weight. Looking around at supercharger kits out of the box the mustang has a few more choices and upgrades and also makes more power. The exception I saw was pro chargers. Their kits made similar hp in both cars.

Procharger is advertising more hp for the Mustang:

Stock vs stock, the new Camaro is a better car. It's a bit lighter and the alpha platform is solid. The performance numbers speak for themselves. As far as visibility goes, no one seems to complain about it after starting the engine.

I'm sure Mustang will up their game in the 2018 redux and then even more so in 2020.

But right now, apples to apples, the Camaro is the better car, imo.

If you're planning on modding, then that's a whole different story because you'll be able to mod either to your performance goals and it becomes more about which you think is just visually more appealing to you.

No, stock vs stock the new Camaro is the faster car. For everyone that likes to fit more than a loaf of bread in their trunk, people older than 5 in their back seats and don't want to feel like they are driving a coffin on wheels, the mustang most certainly is the better car.

2 things i wanted a camaro but....

1. my premium loaded triple yellow 5.0 was less than any Auto SS i could find by apmost 10k at the time.

2. Mustang aftermarket is gigantic compared to the camaro.

Those to factors alone put me in my 1st ford ever.

Ohhh and last i dont regret it for a second. Psst price difference buys alot of go fast parts lol!

From a performance standpoint, as this is what most are looking for when purchasing in this segment, the Camaro is currently the better car.

Looking at total and past mustang sales, performance is NOT the deciding factor. Mustangs have often under performed the competition, yet nearly always outsell them. People don't buy cars just for their performance. If they did, ford would have never sold a sn95 or new edge mustang. The mustang has enough performance and far better room, visibility and ergo.

I've owned a 10 second foxbody and sn95, and neither one of them was a better car than my s550.

It is for people buying V8's, I would think.

Total sales lump 4cyl, V6 and V8's all in together.

The new Camaro is the better performing car. You can debate sales, the size of the trunk (?) or whatever else, but for enthusiasts, the Camaro is a winner.

For now.
