Battery Charging/Maintaining Through The 12 Volt Port

I have my car parked for the winter months and I just purchased a battery charger/tender to keep the battery voltage up through the winter months.

The unit has come with alligator clips, ring conectors and a 12 volt plug. My question is, can we charge the batteries in our cars with the 12 volt plug inserted into the 12 volt port in the car? Or only direct to the battery?

I am wondering if these ports have diode protection so you can't feed power into the car via the 12 volt port?:shrug:

You can't. Cigarette lighter adaptor only works on sockets that provide 12v constantly not the switched ones in the Mustang.
You have to either use alligator clips or wire ring terminals to the car.

DAMN!!!! I was think that, but was hoping otherwise. Its not that big of a deal, but using the 12 volt port would have been a little easier..

Ethanol has a freezing temp 173 below zero (f). So is the concern related to the fact that the ethanol constantly pulls water into the fuel from the atmosphere?

Huh? Unless you keep the tank on low for a long time there shouldn't be any moisture in the tank. I always full her all the way up when I know she will be sitting for a couple of weeks.
The tank and fuel system should be fairly sealed no where to pull moisture into the liquid.
However, that doesn't mean the fuel is dry to begin with. It's possible the gas staton tank already has moisture in the fuel.
