Been lurking here for over a year now since I picked up my 2015 Mustang. Just now posting. Had an accident yesterday where a Tractor Trailer made a to short left hand turn and had his trailer run over the top of my hood.

You think they will fix this or total it? Airbags at my knees went off. I wasn't even aware I had airbags at my knees in this car :)

If its a base GT, I would bet its gone... Premium... its a tossup of what broke underneath all that. The mechanical damage is going to be extensive.

It is a premium. I need to get some more pics, the truck's trailer dragged me back into the car behind me causing a little damage to my bumper and trunk as well. I didn't get a chance to try opening the hood to see how the engine looked.

Quick causal question, was this at a stop light or a stop sign?

I only ask because I've been driving in an industrial part of town the last few months with a lot of trucks hauling pipes and valves. I've found at the lights I need to stop well short of the cross walk because the left turning trucks will significantly creep across the cross walk. A few people have had to backup to keep from getting their corners run over.

The stop signs are a whole other issue. I have to really pull up to see traffic so the trucks will usually stop and let me go in front of them so they have room to turn without pinching my front end off.

This was at a stop light and I was behind the line. The truck was turning onto a 4 lane street but took the inside lane directly next to me instead of taking the outside lane. He was also going through the turn pretty quick, it was a scary situation, no time to back up and there was a car directly behind me and to the right of me, with the truck to the left. Could just pretty much stare as the rear tires of his trailer were coming towards me. After the wreck the driver didn't check on us and wouldnt talk to us when I walked over to his truck, just kept his windows up.

Yeah, I worry about this happening all the time. The trucks around here drive pretty fast. I've also noticed they will just run over the sidewalk when they make right turns. I saw one take out a stop sign when I first started working down here.

I'm def giving extra-extra space at the crosswalk from now on.

The problem at least around here if you are too far back from the line then the Traffic light won't see you and you won't get a green arrow to turn left.

Sounds like he was either in shock from embarrassment or a complete a-hole.

I was just hoping maybe it was his companies policy to only speak to the police in accidents or something for liability reasons. It was definitely a jerk move though.

It takes two days to get the police report and the officer could not give me his name or any other personal information so my insurance can't do anything about contacting his companies insurance until they get the police report.

I'm guessing he was figuring he was in for an ass-kicking and decided to not participate.

What a jerk. Did you get the info on the side of the truck/trailer? Usually on the rear there is often a 'How is my Driving?' placard and a number you can call. Definitely not on all but bigger companies usually have this.

Good luck and glad you weren't injured.

It's gonna be a total loss..

99% of the time any of the airbags deploy the company considers it a total due to the very significant impact it takes to trip the airbag deployment sensor.

Holy Moley@! Glad you are OK, that is the most important thing. I would expect it will be totaled. I also expect that is for the best.

Truck drivers are often told not to talk to anyone after an accident. They will talk to police, but many large companies train them extensively to not admit fault. Only answer questions as yes or no. Then they like to drag things out in insurance forever.

Source: Brother is an OTR driver. I've had a hit and run, call 911, chase truck driver down scenario where the driver and his companies played games. Brother explained this is actually completely normal and truck drivers are trained to behave this way. :tsk:

*Edit* Thought I would add, he explained they do this because otherwise people will usually attempt to take them to the cleaners. IE: Ask for huge pay outs instead of just getting your car repaired even though no one is injured. *End Edit*

But as many others stated, glad you are OK and hope for a quick simple insurance repair since this looks to be a clear cut 100% at fault claim.
