On Saturday I loaded up my new Lund tune (I think this is unrelated to the AC issue) and I took my car out and turned off my AC system completely.

Today (Monday morning), I got in my car to go to work and I turned on my AC system. It has a weird smell at first and the air started blowing (cool) but it never got cold. I turned it off, back on. Pressed the A/C button on and off and nothing changed.

Any ideas?

I would take it to the dealer. Sounds like something burned up.

Houston is starting to cool off this time of year, so it should only be in the high 90s today with 92% humidity, don't really need AC at those temps.

I had a '90 Mustang GT that this happened 2 or 3 times in 4 years....it was a part called the "Cycling Switch" that controlled when the compressor turned on and off. However, that was 25 years ago so not sure relevant to your current situation...definitely sounds like a trip to the dealer.

It is cool outside. It is only getting up to 93 and humidity is quite low at 75%.

I work for Phillips 66 and our office is in Houston. When I go down there it always humid!

Houston and other southern cities would have never seen the growth they have without AC!

You might be joining the bandwagon that a few of us are on with AC problems... Not sure if your's is related.. But try turning your AC on full blast, and make sure re-circulating air is turned off. See if there's a noticeable difference in the temperature of the air coming out of your driver's side, and passenger side vents (It's possible that the temperature on both sides will be the same, but the amount of air being pushed will be a lot less than you are use to).

That seems to be the most common trend, like I said it could be unrelated.

Yes, this is what is happening. But why would turning my air off then on trigger it?

Couldn't really tell you other than the vapor core is faulty, they apparently updated it.... I had that happen as well on a 4 hour drive , I would have to turn the AC on and off every once and a while to get the air going lol... now it doesn't work when I do that, have an appointment tuesday to bring it in.

Yep, lots of "A/C died" threads been popping up lately. OP, just scan this issues forum and you'll find them.

Same thing happened to me maybe a month ago. I know what you mean about the smell. I was worried when I took it in I'd get the dreaded nothing is wrong answer since it did cool a little bit. Fortunately the dealer was great, found that I had a leak in a line and the freon was low and repaired it under warranty.

welcome to the club :). Should we get our own forum now... lol - mine did the same thing, hot on drivers, cold on passengers until it finally went out. My service adviser said thats classic evap core failure. I hope i get my car back today, its been at Ford since last wed.

Dang, I don't want to have to get a rental car that long.

Just spoke to the dealer I bought it from. They said I have to drop it off...they'll look at it in 3 days...then they will fix it.

I said, well can I just make an appointment in 3 days? "Nope".

I guess I'm spoiled being our last 4 cars were BMWs?

DO NOT let the dealer tell you they fixed it until they check the evaporator. They won't want to because they have to disassemble part of the dash, but I can guarantee this is related to so many others with the problem:
