I bought a MBRP Race exhaust recently and am wanting to get a catless downpipe to up the volume as I heard that on videos it's deep but not loud. What do you guys think of this setup? I heard one clip on youtube but feel free to post more if you got them. Keep in mind that I haven't heard a MBRP Race in person yet and mine should be here tomorrow...

Also, what catless downpipes won't trigger a CEL? I'm not an expert on the matter but I heard that the ATP clone found on ebay won't set it off but megan racing will... This is confusing as I heard that it included a bung. I'm not looking to spend a lot on the downpipe as it really only functions as generic piping. How about o2 extenders? Could I just get any catless downpipe and just get a cheap o2 extender to not get a CEL. I'm not tuning anytime soon either so that's out of the question. Don't care if I'm not making as much power as I would with a tune and I just want sound but won't be surprised if I pick up some power

I can't comment on the combination of the catless downpipe and MBRP race, as I haven't heard it in person. However, I just got the ATP clone to use in conjunction with the Solo Performance catback. The fitment is solid and it honestly seems like a great piece for the price. If you make them an offer for $200 they will meet you in the middle at $225. I bought this O2 extender and have no CEL yet. I'm almost positive that you will get a CEL with no extender on this downpipe. The only catless downpipe that won't give a CEL (as far as I know) is the MAPerformance as it basically has a built in extender.

What's the point for the o2 bungs then? to hold the sensors while they read cat deficiency then? I feel like they would advertise it only if it actually stopped CELs. Did you just weld the o2 extender or bolt on like it says?

You are exactly right. The bungs are just there to hold the sensors in place. I think they just advertise the bungs as a way of saying it's basically a bolt on part and you don't have to drill your own holes or anything like that. As for the O2 extender, it will just thread right into the bung and then the O2 sensor threads into that. Super simple and no welding required!

So are you saying that the (and its pretty long) the O2 bung on my MAP turbo specific DP by itself will not through a CEL without a CAT with the rear O2 enabled?, due to how far out of the stream it is?

I can't say for sure. I know MAP designed their downpipe with that extended bung for the purpose of preventing a CEL, and they advertise that on the product page, however I have seen a few people on here that did get CELs after a while.

Make sure you use plenty of penetrating oil on those nuts and an impact if you have the right extentions. My friends downpipe install turned into an all nighter when the studs went to heck. Luckily we got the old studs out and new ones in and the PYPEs down pipe sounded great and added alot of go. He threw a code after 4 days of driving. It was easy enough to turn off with HPtuners.

Lol I had the exact same problem with one of the studs on mine. The threads got jacked up, and I had to order a special extractor tool to get it out of the turbo.

I have the MBRP race with a catless maperformance downpipe. Didn't throw any CEL. I'll post up a sound clip on the weekend.

CommyO,
Have you already purchased your downpipe?
Is this going to be a "track only" vehicle?
If you answered no to both I would recommend a high flow catted downpipe. Keeps it street legal, for the most part, and reduces backpressure on the turbo.
Not sure, but I would guess factory exhaust is 2.5" and if the new exhaust is 3" the size difference will have an affect on sound too.
I would recommend calling around to a few local tuners, get their opinion, and seriously consider getting it tuned. My tuner charged me $500 for the first tune, $250 for follow-on tunes. A new turbo-back exhaust is a great base for a tune and tuner. As you continue to mod your Mustang, because you will, one can't help it, the tuner can make recommendations and has a better working knowledge of what you have, or don't have, and adjust for it.

No, I haven't yet. Just the catback. Honestly the reason I'd only go catless is due to the legality. I mean I could probably get a catted downpipe but what's the point? It's like getting catted headers. Not worth the trouble imo. High flow is probably illegal here in CA as well and they are expensive as hell from what I see with the green cats with Kooks headers.

My plans for the car are eventually tune FMIC full exhaust, intake and see what kind of power that nets mean and relax for a few years and do some suspension stuff and wheel stuff. Down the line, if I don't trade in for the next gen mustang, I might go big turbo and go for weight reduction and coil overs for a nice street track car.

PS 500 for your first tune is pretty pricey unless it didn't require to buy a tuning device and was tuned by a shop.

Update for those who care:
Got the catback installed today with a few buddies. Sounds good. Not that loud honestly so I will be going catless downpipe. Any dangers to not tuning?
Maybe Tune+ or tmcphail chime in

I have a MBRP Race with a catless downpipe. It's loud. Like stupid loud. I didn't mind it, wife couldn't take it. I added a Vibrant resonator inline. Still loud as a raped ape when you get on it but once you settle into gear, it's quieter than just about anything i've seen inside. Without the resonator, it's loud all the time.

I think I have a higher tolerance for loud.... All the times I blast music on my ears at the gym catching up to me:shrug:
Shouldnt be too loud around 2k though and people have described the regular race as too loud and I found it lacking volume

When you say legality and catless, you are referring to a down-pipe without a catalytic converter? If so, then how would a high flow catted down-pipe be illegal compared to not having one at all? And what do you mean by catted headers? Possible sarcasm that was not understood?

Also, if you're planing to add a FMIC with intake to your turbo-back exhaust, you might want to look at fuel injectors and fuel pump. OEM fuel rails should suffice.

BTW $500 for a pro-tune on a dyno that also added the programming to my accessport in not a bad deal. With mods and a conservative tune I'm making 50% more whp and 40% more torque. But what do I know ...
