My RB gear pump is very quiet. With the engine off you must have the door open to hear it. I only use it when on the track. There is no way to push hard enough on the street to need it.

People have gotten limp mode on the street

I used a compact Mocal pump, rated up to 2 gpm. It is NOT rated for continuous duty. Cost is under $180. There is now another Mocal pump that IS rated for continuous duty, priced around $300, with brass pump body and bronze gears. Same flow rate as the basic Mocal, and same compact size.

I mounted the pump metal to metal at the front end, with no isolation or insulation materials. I can hear the pump if I'm just sitting in the car with the radio off and the exhaust in quiet mode. Under way, you can't hear the pump.

Sorry for sounding newb here, but what brand pump is RB ?

Also, their are people that have hit limp mode while driving out on the street, so pump would need to be on at all times for some of us depending on the kind of environment these cars would be driven in.

In the meantime, i might drop by my Ford dealership later on today just to see what they have in inventory ! :eyebulge:

Who knows what can happen if i show up with my car.......

Ford has left me with this sour taste in my mouth and i don't like it. :tsk:

Sorry, I'm in Florida. Dead flat, 70 mph speed limit, It takes 5 laps at PBIR using 3rd, fourth, and a bit of fifth gear. or run it to 8200 in fourth to go limp. That's a 140 mph back straight. Pump is from RB Racing.

Do you know if the RB pump metal or plastic gears?

I just got off of the phone with Tom (sorry, I couldn't call yesterday due to being unexpectedly busy).

Any way, phone call started off on the wrong foot as he started in with the whole "it was never intended to be tracked" line. I countered with the usual arguments we've had here. Brakes, suspension, motor, track mode etc, everything is the same as other cars (overkill for the street). I also said I didn't want to run all day on the track as I just want to be able to do a 20-25 minute HPDE session without hitting limp mode. I also mentioned that people have been having overheating/limp mode issues on the street. He was unphased by this and just stated that he didn't want to argue about it, but I could tell he is in the camp that us base/tech guys are basically idiots for buying the wrong car. That is how I felt about that give and take anyway.

All I could get out of him was the usual info. The two options and I got the part number for the cooler kit, which is M-7095-M8S according to him. I asked him if there was going to be a FP pump for sale in the future with the kit. He was confused by this question and didn't know if it came with one or not and also didn't find out the information for me.

On a side note, I asked him if it was normal for my car to go through a quart of oil in 3000 miles. This is with no leaks and while having both sides of the FP oil separators. He was surprised, but was unsure if it was normal or not and suggested I swing by my dealer.

Overall, this phone call was not a great introduction into dealing with people at FP and did not help my confidence level in their products or support of them.

They are probably getting tired of the calls all at once - but no reason to give you that experience... This was the same conversation I had with the engineering team at the Sebring Track Tour because I was undecided in what I wanted to get. But those conversations were if you plan to track all day, many times a yr - buy an R or track pack, but if you only plan to run a few HPDE's, the tech would be fine - they never said that it will only last half an HPDE. Hopefully this kit fixes it, but I feel I made a bad decision last yr.

That said, if the Ford solution doesn't come with a pump, I'm a little confused on what would really be taking them that long to get a system out unless they are going to provide pump recommendations and those will retain warranty, then it makes some sense. I worked for TRW and then a medical device company and know that validation of products isn't easy or short, but this seems weird - time will tell. Seems FP was too busy winning Lemans (which was cool) too work on a car the average-ish people could afford.

Funny thing is, is that he said this is the first he has heard of it. I actually said you guys are probably tired of these calls and I think he said "what calls." So who knows. He was definitely unaware of our calling campaign on the issue though.

I like to disassemble things.

They are there for technical help. The individual you spoke with didn't sell you the car. So from his perspective you are using a vehicle in a manner that allows it to exceed capacity and the way to address it is to equip it such that you mitigate the issue - in this case, cooling of the transmission. So his "it was never intended to be tracked" comment was from a purely practical perspective. If you don't have the necessary cooling elements in place and want to track the car, you need to add them. That's all.

You are so late to this argument it isn't funny.

Let's just agree that if heat is such an issue; this car should had never been offered without coolers.

I can see where and why you would say that, but you didn't hear the tone of the phone call. It was more than that IMO.

Edit: Also, he was not very helpful when it came to the technical stuff, so there is that as well.
