Updates can be had through sync my ride for free. If you're looking for a software only update then it can be downloaded from there and loaded via a usb drive yourself. The question is: Will Ford release the update without the USB hub installed, or will it have to be a package deal. Not sure I want to spend any money, I just want the firmware. I don't have apple, never will.
I was able to change to the Shelby GT350 theme. They have a color theme too and a couple Lincoln themes. Unfortunately it reverts back to stock when you turn off the car, don't know if there is a way to save it.Yesterday I found out how to enter APIM diagnosis mode, which allows to change theme for sync 3: on the "about" screen pushing CD eject and forward seek buttons for 10 seconds prompts this screen.

If the "color theme" is what I think it is (see video below) it's permanently programmable in FORScan. When I get my car back I'll mess around with the values to see if I can get the other themes to permanently display.you have to reprogram the as-built data to make the vehicle think it was built as a GT350
OEMRadioWhy is a USB wire $200. And why does the iPhone need this? (What is different about it? Does it plug into a different port on the head unit?Yes.. they will.. the only people that need the USB are iPhone users.. or those that want to use carplay
Even if the hardware is there. The maps are probably not there. Are we able to turn on Nav with any of this? IIRC I had read that the hardware for nav is already in place because it is used for other things, but it's purely software holding us back. I sent OEMRadio an email but haven't heard back.

This was covered in the DIY section. Sync3 maps require a license code on the system.Even if the hardware is there. The maps are probably not there.
It isn't the wire.. its the port in the armrest..OEMRadioWhy is a USB wire $200. And why does the iPhone need this? (What is different about it? Does it plug into a different port on the head unit?
Its not a license.. its a different unit.. the maps are not on there and there is no way to add them.. the board inside is different between nav and non nav carsThis was covered in the DIY section. Sync3 maps require a license code on the system.
Automotive stuff have different certifications and they cost tons of money. It isn't the wire.. its the port in the armrest..
I have no idea why they cost that much.. I pay more for these than I did the units with the SD Card reader for the MFT
Take this, then make a big bold ink stamp across it and say + APPLE markup, and wa-la. You have 200 dollars.Automotive stuff have different certifications and they cost tons of money.
I work in this area and we test automotive radios. A dust test certification is $5k.
