I'm new to the S550, I've had it about 5 or 6 days now, but i've been having a lot of fun and racking up miles on it. Anyway, I have an auto...(yeah yeah I know.) and I've noticed when I get on it in sport mode it will redline, lighting the gauge up red. Is this OK? I figured even in sport mode it would keep it from doing this. I don't want to destroy the transmission on the car.

First of all, there is absolutely nothing wrong with having a modern auto transmission. Stop thinking that it somehow lessons your Mustang. It doesn't.

Secondly, when you are shifting at the redline you are far below the point where there is any risk of damaging your engine. That's what it is there for.

OK great, thank you. Seeing the dash light up red freaked me out considering I just bought the thing. The funny this is that my brother and most of my buddies who tried to talk me into a manual, admitted they probably would have gotten the auto also. Traffic is terrible here and it's my daily driver.

First of all no need to apologize for having an auto. They're actually faster off the line than manuals.

I know exactly what you mean about redline in sport mode. I've done it a few times unintentionally while in sport mode (though i dont remember getting a light). I'm still getting used to the car holding the rpms so high when you floor it. I'm don't thinks is a big deal once in a while, but yeah I'm not a fan of doing it so easily.

The auto in the newer Mustangs is awesome. I don't regret it one bit. Sport mode and the paddles are a blast.

Yeah, it likes to rev. and like you, I'm not use to a car that rev's so high, I worry and back off the gas for fear that it might blow the engine or trans. I guess I have to get use to having a car like this haha. But like SpeedLu said, they were made to do this, and even though it redlines it changes below the point where damage would occur, but seeing the tach glow red can be scary.

Having to constantly shift up and down in traffic can really take the fun out of having a manual.

I agree. I haven't tried the paddle shifters yet, but from what i've seen, they do look fun. I've had 3 automatic Mustangs over the year, a 1973 Mach 1 with an FMX, and a 1994 SN95 with an auto as well. The manuals always sounded better IMO, but these new transmissions actually sound really good, especially when downshifting.

Yeah, if I lived somewhere with more open roads and less traffic I might consider a manual, but here with bumper to bumper traffic and lights and stop signs every 30 feet, I wanted the auto. The auto start is nice too, especially in the winter. The auto transmission is most likely faster than I would be with a manual anyway.

These engines are capable of revving much higher than the 6800RPM stock red line. I have a flex fuel tune that shifts at 7500.

I plan to get a tune in the future..and some headers, CAI, 3:55's, I just can't work up the courage to lose my warranty already. :D

Look into the factory power packs. Might be able to keep the warranty. And have the tune??;)

The coyote definitely likes to wind. It took a lot for my S197 GT auto to redline like that.

I looked at a manual before getting my auto and I couldn't be happier. These trannys are awesome.
