Fixing those front plates on!!

Expanding from another thread I would like to work out the best way of sorting the front plates on the new beast.

My plate is a private reg and to make sense needs to be rectangle not square. I will also be having stripes fitted all the way down including bumper so I imagine a sticky pad would in reality remove the vinyl if the plate is trying to spring back to straight. Also not that bothered on the plate holders fitted but would like to avoid them if possible. ANy bright ideas, if I have to drill holes so be it, but before we go down that route, best to ask!

Hello mate, personally if I were you I would go with drilling to the bumper. preferably a metal plate rather than plastic so you can make the bend to the shape of the bumper.

Sticking to vinyl should be fine but does add another point of failure. I have stuck mine on twice now and maybe I got crap double sided tape but it does start to un-stick where the plate is trying to bend back. Drilling will give you extra piece of mind. Using sticky pads will be fine but be prepared to stick them on again one day! Getting the pads residue off is a pain too.

If you get an aluminium plate and bend it to the correct angle then there shouldn't be any tension on the pads at all. They will literally be supporting the weight of the plate and that's it.

I asked my dealer just to stick the front plate on. He got an Ali plate with no bidding from me.

Sounds a good option, however do the aluminium plates not look a bit dated on a modern car?? I have to say I do use them for the old campers so there could be another type over the retro one

I got my Ali plates from here: http://www.number1plates.com/

They're pretty indistinguishable from plastic ones and are road legal. Bent to shape and fitted with sticky pads

weirdly I don't have a photo and the Mrs has got the car today but I'll post a pic later on

They look exactly like the plastic ones. You wouldn't tell the difference unless you looked at the back.

Aluminium plate, is a quick one... best option? Get your stripe guys to do a reg plate for you, they can print it on a sheet and stick it on, will just be a pure sticker reg, no reason for the metal/plastic !

Having got a sticky one myself, I would say go for the aluminium. Or at least a smaller than standard plate.

The self-adhesive ones don't look all that classy in comparison.

I'm sure you would have been pulled by now if the police had a problem with your plates, either that or they're blind ;)

Like I said, a technicality.

They're the right size, font, dimensions and are also reflective. It's just they're not stamped with the correct BS mark.
