Rich - Apologies I don't have this info here. The units I was able to allocate I couldn't even get my hands on. We'll try to source this for you.
AMAlexLazarus Sorry, just meant if he already has MFT he might want to go that route so he doesn't lose any functionality since this is for those with the base unit and hardware.

Didn't mean to step on your toes

I would not recommend this for you at all. Having come from an MFT swap I can say that the screen is way more responsive and Nav is way better. However, you would effectively loose your ability to control your climate as you have the dual zone climate controls vs the standard manual ac controls. On top of the fact that you would have to source a base model sync module, re-pin the APIM connector, and reprogram your ACM.... It simply will not work for you. I would suggest sticking with a sync 3 upgrade.
Other than the screen mirroring, it wouldn't be an upgrade. Your unit would still have the same lag because this is meant to add a large display that is emulating the Sync hardware apready in the car. YOU have HD and SAT, this unit does not. In my opinion, you would be pissing money away if you replace what you have with this, the Rosen or the Moddiction unit, which is what I have.

I'd recommend checking out OEMRadio and his thread. From what I can tell, his Sync 3 upgrade isn't really a "workaround"... all OEM parts and functionality.

Thanks for the response, guys. Yes, I don't want to lose my dual climate controls. In this heat I have come to realize that once in awhile the screen control is needed for fine tuning the settings.

thet33, I have talked with OEM. He was very helpful, but even he said I might want to wait. There are uncertainties still about how synch3/carplay as an upgrade will work. It will probably not update on wifi, and right now the only way to program it is to use someone else's vin. I am guessing updates may have to done by sending in a memory stick to him each time. This is not a criticism of OEM. He does excellent work, but he is also very up front about the limitations. Microsoft/Ford/Apple support right now is very poor for MFT, and I don't want upgrade if I can't improve on that.

I added the Apple hands free upgrade and it has only decreased the usability of my iPhone with MFT. Phone calls still work, but if I run maps on my iPhone, I can't get siri's turn by turn voice anymore, either through MFT or thru the iPhone itself! They promised a fix last December. I doubt it will ever come (even plugging it in, like they suggest, doesn't help. I think they are all through with MFT and abandoning us).

So, just considering alternatives. Not in a hurry, however.

So this unit is going to look like Sync 2 or it *is* Sync 2? And the Moddiction unit is a Sync 3 lookalike but uses Sync 2 functionality? Somewhat confused on the unit differences here and what makes the Raxiom better.
Anyone can answer this? There's almost 1700 posts to read through between the two topics. What's the difference between the two units? Do we know yet?

These 2 units along with Rosen are literally the same units - all made by Sintegrate, the only difference is the software versions.

Ok, thank you. Then they are both running Sync 2, but the Moddiction unit has a Sync 3 skin and the Raxiom unit still uses the Sync 2 skin?

Correct, however Raxiom unit is proven to be upgradable to the Sync 3 interface.
Thank you SO much for the clarity--I've been wondering this for a while now. What needs to be done to upgrade the unit? Sorry for the multiple questions and thank you for answering them.

Happy to help dude :)
To upgrade you just need the software update files (obviously) and a micro SD card or a USB driver.
Having said the units are the same, I'd get my unit considering the customer support after buying.

So something extra I figured out about this unit! You can play MP3 files and it will display artwork and all. Plus it will default to playing MP3's on startup if that was the last media source before it was powered off. To do this you need to place your MP3 files onto the SD card that contains the navigation. It is an 8GB card that comes with the unit but can be upgraded to a larger capacity. You need only drag and drop the navigation file to the new card.
