TrYing to decide which to do first. Steeda springs for a 1 inch drop or tune and cai. Does cai make a huge difference or is most of the hp gains from the tune? I was gonna go with the lund tune with jlt intake or just lund tune if the cai doesn't make a huge difference

Power mods are great. But imo i think suspension should come first to get the wheel hop under control.

CAI Tune or Springs?

Hi All,
Just giving my feedback as I just added CAI and tune to my GT/CS last weekend. [pic below, before I removed the sound tube] I got everything from Livernois Motorsports and went with the Severe Windstorm CAI and the My Calibrator tuner plus the coolant tank. Anyhow at first before I changed anything I liked the stock sound that the under hood tube made. Then I installed a Serve Windstorm CAI with the tube still connected and oh my god, the noise was so loud I couldn't heard the exhaust etc at all even had to turn the radio up.. So I capped it of with the parts that came with the CAI and now it sounds great! I actually like it better than the stock sound it sounds like its the engine under the hood [which it is] but not in the car like the tube kinda was..Driving it with just CAI it seemed just a little quicker but maybe that was just the noise.. Once I added the 93 octane tune I can tell it makes a bunch more power but how much I don't really know as I haven't dyno'd it or been to the track etc. More on the tune, stock I just didn't seem to have a good feel with the gas pedal. The car is a manual so driving a stick with out good gas pedal feel I just didn't like it, I felt unconnected to it somehow?? I was always giving it too much or too little throttle taking off, shifting gears etc and I've been driving Mustang sticks forever.. Anyway after the tune now it's great! I feel connected and I can control the throttle much better and its easier and a much smoother drive. It also seems like the front end rises up more and faster and pulls harder when I get on it so its probably got more torque too. I also once hit the rev limiter stock [just testing it.] and the car like shut down and nose dived hard and stayed running, but now with the tune it just shutters like a MSD rev limiter and doesn't lose all power just some. I like that much better!! I'm sure that alone will make it faster at the track if I wind it up a little too much. Which is easy to do because it revs and pulls so hard I never want to lift.. [my bad I guess] .All in all I spent about 3 hours doing all of it and I got out just what I hoped or expected so I am very happy with all of it. I like the stock height on mine and have to be careful with driveways now so I'd do the tune and CAI.....

Almost all of your horsepower from a tune + intake combo is going to come from the tune, but that combo will get more out of the intake than an intake alone, so it's worth it if bought together. I'd personally do suspension first if I was looking at more than straight-line performance though. The GT suspension ain't bad but you can make it a lot better. Plus being an inch lower looks great.

I'd say go with the springs first. Improves handling while making the car look so much better.

I'm fine with the stock height with my wheel/tire combo. First mod should be exhaust (which you seem to have) second would be tune or cai/tune for me.

As far as CAI are you going with PMAS as indicated in your signature or one that comes in a power pack with a tune?

Really want to hear some impressions on the PMAS intake

No I can't figure out how to change my signature so it's not accurate. But I did in fact have a pmas intake at one time when they first came out. Seemed very promising but there were too many bugs with it when it first came out. I hear the versions they are coming out with now are alot better but I'm going to either go with steeda power pack or nguage and jlt with lund tune

Definitely get the JLT/Lund tune instead of the Steeda

I have done both, Eibach Pro-Kit & a Steeda tune required intake.

The Steeda intake was great, because it was something I got to do myself, you get that feeling of modifying your car, and David and the other folks at Steeda are great to work with, even when you get upset and send an angry email to them at 8:30 PM their time lol.

The springs though, it is something you can see every time you walk to your car, it makes the car look better and that is more tangible. I rarely get to experience my intake as my commute doesn't allow a lot of full throttle or even over 2500 RPM driving.

I think for me, the best mods are the ones I can see, feel, hear and use every day.

* Transmission insert (Steeda or Whiteline)
* X-pipe (or H-pipe) resonator delete
* Springs and other suspension mods
* Wheels and tires

Yea I've only done cosmetic mods so far with the exception of my FRPP touring exhuast. Can't wait to get my springs put on to see how it sits
