What are the biggest benefits with having a dash cam. I think they are cool but not sure what I would use it for.

For those who have it, what kinda stuff do you use it for?

There is a thread floating around here about a guy that got hit by a ratchet strap off of an 18 wheeler. A dash cam probably would have helped him figure out who it was and get them to pay for the damages.

I have yet to buy one. It will be a future purchase once I have the chance to actually research them for what I want. There are sooooo many anymore to chose from.

Well you can do a hardwire kit and have it stay on. Just depends on which one you buy. Mine is pretty much hard to see and has two cameras. A smaller camera on the rear window and the main one on the front windshield. The camera is also pretty good for vandalism.

Car accidents and theft
I would say that in most cases when somebody steals your car they are not going to leave the dash cam inside. I'm not sure how useful it is for theft unless it's really small and really concealed.

I bought mine for accidents and for pics of anybody messing with the car while parked in my work garage.

Benefits: Everything
Having footage of an accident instead of eye witness testimony or he said/she said is probably the most important thing and can cover your ass big time if you're not at fault.
Also acts to keep service ppl or valet drivers on better behavior if your cam is obvious.
They're cheap as hell and easy to install.

It can also record drag races if you're into that.

Honestly, before I bought my dash cam, I really didn't care much about having it for evidence in the event of an accident. However, after just pulling the trigger (can't remember what convinced me), I find myself pulling the SD card out and uploading videos almost weekly. Whether it be someone giving compliments, me just going WOT and wanting to capture footage, a quick race on the way to New Orleans, whatever.

Now I can't see myself owning a car and driving it without a dash cam. There's been times where I've left the parking lot of my apartment complex and turned right back around just to run inside and get the SD card that I pulled out the previous day.

I bought it because i had bad experiences with dealerships. Imagine getting your car back with 20+ miles on the odometer and a 10mpg average on trip A/B that you reset before dropping it off.

Bought mine for accidents. Mainly hit and runs.

I recommend getting the BlackVue DR650GW-2CH (front and back) + Cellink Battery B.

Very small, great quality, and the battery keeps it recording for 2-3 days while the car is off.
