Anybody heard any news if they're gonna release the 2.3 as a crate engine like the Coyote and 2.0 Ecoboost? I have a potential project I would like to put one in after I finish my 55 T Bird.

Is there any other RWD manual trans that will fit it other than the Mustang trans? It would be going in a 2000lb RWD car.

3rd gen NC Miata transmission, It used the 2.0 N/a version of this engine. Strength would be suspect though.

Yeah it would be but even then a 2000lb car is still 200 some odd pounds lighter than a Miata, therefore easier on the drivetrain.

Yeah but I figure you will be running minimum double the hp and tq as a Miata!

So the 2.0 Ecoboost may be a better option. Are the external engine dimensions any different? Sorry for so many questions, this would be my first venture into any Ford engine that didnt have 8 cyl.

Another option would be to check eBay for totaled parts cars. Seriously I've been scoping it for awhile and was surprised how many bad drivers there are! :)
For instance here's one with an auto tranny: http://tinyurl.com/hno85mw
Here's one with a tranny but does specify what kind: http://tinyurl.com/zdw4mcu
I know there was another with a manual not that long ago.

Factory 5 is using the 2.3 Eco in a 2000 lb car called the 818. I believe it mates to a Subaru STI 6 speed.

The 818 also uses the Subaru motor, not just the transmission.

True their originally released product was intended for a STI wrx drivetrain, but as of like oct or something of last year they announced they were working on incorporating the 2.3 engine into that kit. I think that's what he's referring to. I don't recall what transmission they said they were going to use. Maybe it is the STI transmission

They also incorporated the s550s new IRS into some of their other kits as well.

Thats correct but thats not what Im wanting to build. RCR makes a Jaguar D Type replica now that takes a Jag 6 cylinder. I know nothing about Jag engines and thought that an Ecoboost would weight less, take up less space, and have more HP than the inline 6.

That looks like an awesome project, Keep us posted! Sorry you aren't happy with your trans, I think it's pretty good, not the best I've driven but far from the worst, What do you hate about it and is auto an option?

I prefer 3 pedals in the floor. Ive driven 8n Ford tractors that shift better than an MT82. Im used to old T5s where the more you drive em the smoother they get. The MT82 just feels crunchy all the time.
