I have this whirling noise coming from what I think is the gearbox/ clutch. It's like you can feel and hear the cogs but it's more in first and second It's not bothering me as such I think it's well documented and I've done some long trips down to Cornwall. Is this the same noise that some have complained about on first picking up there cars.
I haven't changed the gearbox oil yet but I suppose that's an option.I really notice it when I slow down at a round about and change down and release the clutch I can really hear the gears.

Driven around Devon today including motorway and I really think that it's a trait of the gearbox.
At speed apart from the roar on acceleration I cannot hear gear noise and the gear knob has no vibration, changing gear is fine.if I'm in a traffic jam with slow moving traffic, and I change through the gears quite a bit I can feel and hear the gears.I don't mean thuds or clonks, it's more of a cog/bearing noise

Wasn't sure if twiggys noise was the same
I can understand new drivers thinking there was a problem

UM to be honest i'm starting to think it is the same problem as mine, was in Mark the Cabbys car today and his made the same sound a few times, I think some cars make the sound louder than others, you'll find it's when the engine is under load in low revs, say just creeping up a hill in second on the verge of stalling, or just pulling away in traffic, even more noticeable if you cock up and try pulling in second, it'll only last a second or two then stops when you get faster, mine makes the sound only when warm and i'm starting to think it's the gearbox and when it's warmed up the oil thins making it even louder.

Out of interest, to the more mechanically minded, if it was the gearbox, should the ecoboost not make the same noise? Or different transmissions used?

I often thought that but i'd say it's a different gearbox although maybe made by the same company, if it is the same it'll have different size cogs and things i'm sure.

That's it slow revs underload,or a jerky pull away at a round about., then you accelerate and it's gone.No problem with gear changes it's just a bit noisey creeping along in first or second.

Mine will do it in all gears if I try to do it, even reverse.

Have you changed your clutch spring yet? I had some odd noises like it was straining in 1st and 2nd at low revs but put the new spring in tonight and gone instantly. Pulls away cleaner and just easier to use at low revs.

No, but that's interesting you should say that, went out in one the other day that had the spring change and it didn't do it.
