Hi folks,

I thought I'd spend some time blogging about yesterday. I had the opportunity to take both my new 2016 GT Performance Pack w/Recaro Mustang to a new track for a shakedown along side my old track car, a 2000 Honda s2000 which has had quite a many modification to make it a track beast.

Net-net, The incredible news is that the stock Mustang appears to have matched and possibly beaten the s2000's best time by a fraction of a second. Unfortunately, I did not have transponder results and had to resort to timing the videos.

The fact that the Mustang is so fast on the track from the factory really kind of surprised me; considering the particular test track is purported to favor light cars over HP cars.

More information, pix, links to come.

Pretty impressive, I've driven a very lightly modded S2000 and those cars carry speed exceptionally well on the track so for your GT to match that pace is pretty amazing if you ask me.

Totally agree. The s2k was on 245/40/17 Bridgestone RE-71R x4 so it had much better tires, and tire patch per car pound. I'm rusty in the s2k but I felt like I was pushing it a wee bit harder than the mustang too, as it is not brand new

The stock GTPP Mustang feels incredibly balanced and easy to rotate on almost all (non-hairpin) turns. :ford:

My gtpp has impressed me too in roadway manners. On dry pavement of course. Ford really nailed it on the balance of the suspension(wheel hop excluded). The car is heavy, pirellis are sticky and the independent rear behaves so well. But I do wish the weight was 400-500 lbs less. It might make for a better chance of tire smoking takeoffs lol

You guys are making me jealous. Mine is about 10 seconds off at VIR from my old M3... But that probably had more in it than I care to admit. Youtube: Impulsed7 for comparison.

Duh, didnt mention the track

Yes, Thunderhill 2 mile track.

EDIT:
Other impressions:

-No issues with temperatures, including the rear axle warning that happened my first HPDE day (at 8/10ths)... This day at perhaps 8.75/10ths...

-Brakes are amazing.

-Car is super comfortable on the street, and incredible cruising on highways.
I hope I do not disrupt that with the build in progress.

-My gas mileage is like 11 haha

Wonder what the difference would be if you drove a GTPP at VIR? I bet the gap would close based on what I know about VIR....which isn't a whole lot:D

just wait until you get some better tires than the Pirelli Poop-Zeros. I changed to PSS and they are way better. Definately do a square wheel setup on the track. Understeer gone.

VIR does have those nice long straights... I am carrying about 6-10 mph less speed in the esses and through roller coaster though. M3 was 270whp or so, and 2800lbs
