Wifi in the Mustang

Ok... So I connected my car to my home wifi...(the signal reaches my garage)..

Easy to connect, just put my password in and job done

But now what??:doh:.. what can you actually do? And how do you do it?

I was thinking of watching YouTube or browsing eBay, :shrug:... But it seems you connect to wifi, for no other purpose than being connected to wifi.... :lol::lol:

Just so you know where I'm coming from, my last car was a TVR and it had a radio cassette......my daily driver is a 2002 Yaris, it has a radio cassette

The word on the US forums was this was for a software update, although maybe the likes of twin turbo could confirm

Seems a lot of trouble and expense just to be able to update sync, when surely you can do this with a flash drive:shrug:...

I misread the thread title at first as "wife in the Mustang" & I thought "no bloody way, where am I going to fit the Mrs?" ... as for wifi, I'm afraid I can't add anything constructive to the debate, I just hit the start button & drive around everywhere & anywhere grinning

Aint this the greatest fu cking feeling in this POS world we race around in ..but hat we do enjoy doing burn outs while updating our POS ultimate WIFI express to you new updates that are useless other than to spy upon you from some hacker readily seeking to destroy you and I while were driving our most prized possession ...


Moral of the story Don't turn the WIFI on while while your enjoying the show .

I hoped the wifi would be an alternative to connecting your phone via bluetooth. Might be more efficient/quicker and would mean I wouldn't have to have bluetooth turned on on my phone, thus improving battery life.

I haven't found this to be the case yet though.

it can use the wifi to update it's software and it can also use the connection to download album art from Gracenote.

The car also has its own wifi network passengers can connect to and share the internet connection of a bluetooth connected phone.

Most phones do that anyway. ie can become their own WiFi hotpot.

I was hoping that Sync could use the phones Internet to use Google for inputting Sat Nav searches and checking traffic.

Not sure what the relevance of having Wifi from your home router is? I mean, second you drive off you'll be out of range, and once that happens, hey presto, wifi is gone. (As for hotspotting from a phone, can't say I've tried that, can't say I want people hotspotting my wifi!)

And yes, wifi on the drive works for the above points (album art, Sync updates etc) I don't think Sync 2 has a browser on it, or the ability for, from a phone, to see the phones screen on Syncs touch screen. But [MENTION=6364]Twin Turbo[/MENTION] can confirm all this being the fountain of ford knowledge he is ;)

Which work the same as your phone creating a hotspot. I meant more for, if the car connects to the home wifi router box, it's pointless because second you drive off it's gone, it's just a different place to browse the web/watch youtube if you were to do it.

I'd clutch at straws and say it'd be good for playing music when cleaning car, but, I just drop my keys In the car with my phone and play through the speakers... (Using spotify/Bluetooth).

Updating, seems to be the only benefit to the wifi.

Mind you, if someone tells me how to turn it on and have it connect wifi to my home wifi i'll give it a go and see if I can figure something out around browsers etc for anyone that wants it as a cool pub trick ;)
