So after further inspection... came to the conclusion that I'm going to have to wire it through the wheel well.

Will check that out Tuesday (as I've got the Steeda springs going in). Wheels will be off, and make things easier. Will report back again.

Not sure if this matters, but I did find 2 white looking things to the right of the accelerator (right side of the car).

Ignore that last post. That's most likely the wheel well route.

As mentioned will open it up Tuesday and report on any findings.

Some good pictures there and looks promising. I'm going to be investigating how to run a wire into the engine bay myself but incredibly I don't even have the capability to take a wheel off. The best I could do is squirt some self-sealing foam in the general direction.

All good. I should definitely have some good info tomorrow. Or maybe even a completed install.

Will be taking the car down the road to a Mustang workshop, I know the owner pretty well. Will pull out the wheel arch guard/cover and see what I can find in the front (right) when he's fitting the springs on the rear.

christ, these cameras are turning into a saga! my mustang is finally being put back together and the next job on Fords list is to install my dash cam.

I've spoken with FORD Daventry on the issue and they've spoken with the workshop. not sure the technical ins and outs but lets see what they end up doing!

Ok. Got back from the shop.

Peeled back the wheel arch guard.

Found one particular spot where a large central wiring loom is going into - held together by a rubber weather shield looking grommet.

After discussing it with my mechanic, we think the best option (and safest) is to slice a small line/hole in it to insert the wiring in. The interior cabin area would have the wire pop out just under the carpet on the firewall. We will then seal if off with some kind of rubber/synthetic seal. Run the wire inside into the fuse-box area, up the side, into the A-pillar and through the roof lining and eventually connecting to the camera.

Stuffing the cabling under this weather shield/rubber thing was not an option as the outer ring was sharp and would eventually cut or damage the camera cabling.

The only reason we didn't proceed was that the provided cabling for the Thinkware F750 was just slightly not long enough. I'm going to extend it about a meter and will reattempt this in about a week or so when the car is on a hoist again.

(Apologies for any incorrect "proper" terminology for stuff. Unfortunately I'm not a mechanic/electrician)

That sounds potentially like the same grommet that was broken on mine and caused the car to flood under the carpets on the drivers side. Would advise extreme caution :) good work though

Great work !

How accessible is the grommet?

I have no idea what it looks like so I have no idea if this is possible.... Is the grommet a place where multiple looms converge to pass through the firewall? Assuming it is only a short distance would it be possible to pull the loom to the side and gently push some coat hanger wire through the middle and then tape on a wire and pull that back?

My plan is to pull a +12v wire through (with an in-line fuse as close as possible to the terminal connection point) and also connect to a good ground which will then be a connection point for any electronics I want to have inside the passenger compartment.

Hey guys, sorry I should have tried to take a picture of something.

Yes it is the big one that has a bunch of wires going through. I was thinking the same thing. Possibly get a wire from the fuse box in through that thing. Or even from the battery, and into the other (passenger) wheel arch. Then use the cabin fuse box for the ignition fuse.

Big_G how did it flood? Sorry to hear that man :( I didn't think any water could get that far up. It looks to be roughly half a meter or so from the ground.

I'm not sure on the exact location of where the broken grommet was, i just know drivers side somewhere under the cowl area, there was also a panel join that had no sealant in it. I noticed the carpets front to back drivers side were soaking wet one day, dried them out with the wifes hairdryer then the next day (no rain overnight, just early morning condensation) noticed it was wet again. Dealer took it to investigate, removed seats & carpet then pressure tested. Broken grommet & seal discovered.

Hey Big_G, not sure if you're still looking for a fix for your/our camera.

But this is what I'm doing.

[ame]

Will route a heat resistant silicone cable through the hole and to the main engine bay fuse box to a suitable spot that has continuous power. Seal the tiny hole with a rubber grommet and/or heat resistant silicone. Done!

Didn't have to mate, wires were the wrong way round. Swapped them over and it's fixed.

Wait what???

So there is a constant source inside? Swap yellow to 23 and red to 2?

Yes, sorry i tried to go through all my threads where this was mentioned and put the fix in... must have missed this one.

Mine was acting up badly so i decided to pull the wires out and start again, looked at the wiring instructions from the american forum then looked at the power markings on the red & yellow cables. Turned out they were the other way round, so Yellow to 23 & Red to 2. Et voila, fixed and works without issue now.
