Why Do People Hide Their License Plates?

I always thought it was more so about people on forums not being able to know who you really are. obviously people who see me (and my tag) around town know who I am already but no reason to tell everyone on the interwebz since i enjoy trolling

not sure why these people aren't getting it. I don't care if people physically see my car and plate.

the less info about yourself online, the better.

I hide mine because I keep a sticker with my full name, SSN, DOB, and address on one of the corners of my license plate. I would prefer that information only be available to those in my immediate surroundings.
