So I've had my GT for a couple months now and do really like being able to feel the acceleration. Lost my first sudo race Friday, a wrx sti pulled up next to me on a sweeping left turn at the red light. I wasn't paying attention to what was next to me. I guess he did. The light turned green and he took me on the outside. Once we were up to 60mph I slowed down as he had to merge into my lane. I'm starting to think I want a supercharger or turbo. Can someone give me the pros and cons to each. I have to pass emission testing each year so have to keep my cats and not mess with the OBD2. Also can only get 91 octane here so limited to that. Also concerned with tires, being my daily driver wondering if factory hp is at the upper limit of regular old tires can handle. I'd hate to get something FI and find out I just roast the tires all the time. Guessing it still lets you get a feel for it and that it's possible for a DD to still have fun on the road when the next STI pulls up. Would appreciate any input on this, I'm sure all of these questions have been asked before. Just not sure if a turbo or supercharger is good for a daily driver without top of the line tires. Also not sure they make turbo kits that allow me to pass my smog testing. Thanks hopefully.

Whipple is CARB legal, so that would be one option.

Just don't kill yourself next time a WRX tries to race!

Thanks, yep Whipple is the only thing on my list because it's the only thing I know is legal for me. Posted this question earlier when I had a break at work and then realized it's probably a pretty common question. Don't know much about turbo's or superchargers as far as pro's and con's but I suppose it might be a moot point if I can't get past the smog shop. I spent 10 years in the 80-90's having to deal with getting my 1979 Capri through smog. Don't feel like going through that again.

Thanks again.

my 2nd to last car was a 2012 WRX - I had intake/exhaust/cobb tune, and a few other things. It was FAST for around town driving. Great to have the ability to drive wot all over the place rain or shine and not feel like you're out of control. It wasnt very fast from a higher mph roll, but for lower speeds, launching on unsuspecting or unaware muscle cars, I had fun with it!

I also had an 03 Cobra with ported stock blower/pulley, full exhaust, and all the bolt ons. That car trapped 126, iirc, but around town it was hard to plant that power and be truly unbeatable from stoplight to stoplight.

My point, besides reminiscing, is that you shouldnt get a whipple, etc with the expectation of never letting anything get in front of you. You can't drive like that all the time with a 650+hp car. You'll beat 99.9% of the cars you run in a fair race, especially as mph climbs, but for regular city driving, it will be hard to harness that power and keep speeds safe!

It's all about the tires and suspension. I have no problem with putting the power down with the right tires. Except for first gear. If I floor it in first, I'm sideways lol.

LOL, yep.

I remember when the 05 GTs first came out and my 03 was fully modded. I caught a light with a new GT and I complemented his car. He goes, "And I just got a K&N intake for it, too!" I tried not to laugh, and said, "Nice, let's see how it does against the older stangs!" He nodded, and on green, did one little chirp and was off. Meanwhile, I sat at the light burning through first. Spun in 2nd, but then started to reel him in. Hit 3rd and passed him like he was standing still. At the next light, he was laughing. He said, "Man, I thought I had you bad, but then I heard this loud whistle and you were gone!!"

At least after modding, you have a chance at winning. lol
Seriously, there are plenty of people putting power down. You can probably put a set of DRs on, and leave Traction control on and beat most cars out there. Who knows about that specific WRX, but my money would be on you in a rematch with an S/C'd GT with Drag radials all day.

Do many put DRs on a DD? When I started thinking of FI I realized my car already has plenty of power to get the tires spinning, I do drive with traction control on, mostly because it's been a long time since I had a car with any kind of power and never one with this much. But I do feel like I'd like more, funny how that worked out. Funny two months ago half of this stuff had never entered my mind.

I have a Whipple on order right now. I just got my car a week and a half ago. I previously had a Challenger SRT8 a few years ago that I supercharged. Very hard to get traction, although extremely fun to drive. I did not realize yours is a DD. Mine will not be, although I do plan on driving it as much as possible (no rain or bad weather). I know the tunes make them very drive-able also. I am in the dilemma right now with tires. What good is all the power if you get next to an average car, and cannot beat it. Not saying street racing is a thing to do, but everyone who mods there car eventually gets into a situation. For me, I will probably drive the car for at least 5k a year. Given that, and people claiming to get 10k+ out of some Drag radials, I think I will take that route.

It's not the end of the word. Can get a pair for under 600 bucks. If they wear out to fast, or I really hate them for some reason, I will just go to whatever the best summer tire is at that point and deal with it. Pretty sure there are quite a few with Dr's on their daily driver though. I am sure some will chime in. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
