That is one method of widening, the other is how Weldcraft does their widening. "When widening we use a band of material of the width requested, so no second donor wheel is required."

Yeah, this is what my friend did to get the OEM wheels on his Supra wide enough for 315s. seems a waste to sacrifice to perfectly good wheels

It's a spare set and I want to be unique.

So I wouldn't say it's a waste.

No I think you misunderstood me. I totally agree that getting the wheels widened is an awesome idea!

i just think that since a method is available that doesn't require sacrificing a perfectly good set you should explore that option. having a spare set can be a lifesaver if you accidentally curb one or destroy one on a pothole.

I understand what you're saying but luckily for me if I curb it I can always get it fixed since I don't DD it.

If I destroy them then I'm out a wheel but the car doesn't see a lot of action other than on the weekends most of the time.

I picked up four OEM PP Wheels from a member on here and I'm in the progress of getting them widened to 19x11's:

The shop doing the work is Wheel Medic in Columbus, OH.

Looking forward to sharing with everyone the final results. I'm debating between a 305/325 tire but I'm thinking I'm going to go with 305's.

Eventually I'll be on Eibach Sportlines and Koni Yellow shocks/struts...
I have never heard of widening a rim before, what does this entail? Are they as safe and reliable as an un-widened rim? Sorry if this is a newbie question

Here's some threads but refer to the above posts for my specifics:

It's fairly common!

Mine should be done before yours. I went with Weldcraft since I spent a good chunk of my childhood in Livonia across the street from what is now Roush Racing. $250 ea plus shipping back to me. No donor wheels necessary.

For those asking about strength, a good weld can be stronger than the base materials being joined. Weldcraft does good welds.

Don't know about the spacers yet.

Awesome! Glad you're diving too.

What spacer are you going to go with?

Also, what tire size?

I'm thinking 305's...

Won't know about the spacers until I do a test fit. The tires I'm getting are Nitto NT05 (not the drag radial NT05R) 305/35r19. I daily drive mine. 305/30 is shorter than the front 255s so nope to that.

There are only 4 tires in that size that I know of. Michelin Pilot SS which are bad ass and OEM on the GT350 and also over $400 a pop, my Nittos that I got for $299 shipped, Mickey Thompson DRs, and the Nitto DRs.

I'm debating between TOYO's (they only offer 305/30/19)/Nittos/Michelin Pilot SS...

I'm glad someone is doing the same as me. Are you going 19x11 too?

Yessir on the 11s. The 30 aspect tires are going to be almost a full inch shorter than the stock fronts unless you plan on changing those too. Probably should be lowered too. Otherwise that might look odd. My front stock P-zeros still have life. I just smoked my rears down to the cords within 9k miles. Got my money's worth though :headbang:

Just let me know what spacers you end up going with as I'll have to go the same route!
