Spotted this on Jalopnik:

"Within the sound-conducting tube that runs through the firewall, there's a piece of sound-deadening foam. To ratchet up the noise, just remove the foam. Refinement is all well and good, but sometimes you need a little less BMW and a bit more Boss."

Who's going to try it first and let me know :)

His car might still be at the dealers.
It probably is... but he's our resident crackpot Modder who'd be willing to do that

Must admit stuff like this is tempting when you're looking at a ÂŁ1400 cat-back. Even muffler deletes :) I'm only half joking.

Probably been listening to too many exhaust videos, but if I hear another person talking about "drone" like it's the end of the world... :headbonk:

I'll be inside the car, not standing behind it, so that's where I'd like to hear some noise

Is that true?! Is there a mic outside or how does it work?

There's a myth buster style video online. It basically pumps sound in from the outside into the cabin. How it does it I do not know, but, it's a very very very feint improvement but purists take it like a v8 noise is being pumped into the cabin - which is untrue.

I will lay rose petals in the path of the first person who publishes a 'for dummies' level walkthrough of this procedure.

I guess this makes more sense. I'd assumed it was just playing a soundtrack but on thinking about it, matching that to the revs would be a fair bit more complicated!

I thought the foam was to stop sh1te being sucked into the intake via the tube.

There's a video of the procedure on youtube somewhere. I think it is linked and is certainly documented in the US side of the forum. I saw it ages ago and was thinking of doing it myself, but I don't think it makes much difference. the foam is probably there to take away any unwanted overtones or harshness.

Except drone is massively wearing when driving if you have it. There's a reason to avoid it!
