My mpg showed 29mpg and I filled up with 14.5+ gallons...when I started up the "miles to empty" gauge/ readout showed 424. Just how is that figure computed? Does it just multiply the latest mpg reading times the full tank of gasoline? Anyone know?

If anyones S550 Mustang with a 3.7 V6 engine is averaging 30 MPG, the Vehicle should be sent immediately to The Smithsonian Museum as a specimen of a car that was specifically made for EPA testing and accidentally got sent to a Retail Customer.

I usually average 26.8mpg cruising around the Texas a Hill Country. But I averaged 29mpg this week on a 750 mile round trip to Louisiana. After I filled up with 14.5 gallons, my "miles to empty" read "424"...never seen it so high. I'm wondering how that is computed? Alright Dudes, here's where you guys can "flame me":tsk:....I guess that K&N drop-in air filter and change to full synthetic Royal Purple is paying off.:clap2: Oh yea, a couple other things, I inflate my tires to maximum and my 3.7 engine only drinks 93 octane!:paddle::crazy:

It is what it is........For Road Trips I take my `13 C-Max Hybrid, 39-40 mpg City & Highway. The Mustang Convertible just learning to live with combined average of 22-23 MPG. Reg Gas, Dealer Synthetic Blend FoMoCo Oil & Stock Air Filter. I don`t "hyper-mile" my Hybrid so obviously I`m not going to get consumed doing it with the 3.7 V6 Mustang Convertible.

AND
the gas pedal has a hollow egg shell permanently mounted to it that remains intact!
I only occasionally drive aggressively, but that keeps my life time mpg at about 20.5 with 6800 miles on car so far. My current tank shows 23 mpg, so I must be lighter on the pedal lately. Though I returned to my stock mufflers, my 4.5" i.d. tips amplify my exhaust just enough to still love hearing it. :)

I thought my poor fuel economy was due to the fact that I Special Ordered my S550 Convertible with the 051A Package but also opted for 13D "Spoiler Delete" and figured that loss of the aero-dynamic improvement of the Blade Spoiler was the reason? LMAO:doh:

Hi Phil,
Good to see you back. I do recall you were clear we that those of us who did not order 'spoiler delete' were dumb asses. :D Glad to know that we may be somewhat less dumb now. ;)

But I do need to confess that I may have been better off ordering mine w/ spoiler delete because I so covet the GT/CS spoiler now when it becomes available. So the joke is on me ( the dumb ass ). :D

Good day to you Phil.

Too be perfectly honest, if I had to do it all over again, I would have ordered Option 13D "twice"! If the Blade Spoiler afforded me an extra 5 MPG Fuel Economy I would forfeit it. The only thing I love more then Spoilers are Rhino Bars on both Headlamps and Tail Lamps unless of course your traveling through the Bush Country in Africa.:D

phil, i would say if anything, the spoiler creates drag rather than reduce it. I don't have too much of a problem averaging atleast 30mpg on the freeway, spoilerless....and I run 285 tires all the way around, and a cut out GT grill, which probably causes a good amount of drag. I plan to do a track spoiler soon, and I know that is gunna hurt mpg a little, but even that I don't see hurting more than 1 or 2mpg. I highly dought that tiny blade spoiler helps/hurts much at all

I believe it's the 93 octane "oats" that I feed my Pony, that gives me a bit of extra mileage. Who knows or cares too much...gasoline costs being so reasonable of late?
