MSD 2-step part II

Huge thanks to member [MENTION=13877]sonic[/MENTION] for helping me out with PCM circuit identification :cheers:. I was actually trying to help out another member when I decided to change my own activation wiring. Previously I was using ground activation with the lower clutch switch (Blue-Orange wire/pin 9). This works but the 2-step deactivates and goes full throttle when the clutch is just a 1/16" off of the floor and not yet fully engaged. Instead, I changed to the top clutch switch (Green-Violet wire/pin 8). I tap'd into the 22 AWG wire at the bottom of the clutch assembly near the OEM 4 wire connector. Now the 2-step deactivates and the car goes full throttle at the very top of the clutch stoke. Thanks again Sonic

MT82 2-step = use Green-Violet wire for ground activation (either under dash or near PCM)

What exactly is 2 step and what does it do? Sorry for the noob question.

I do know it sounds BADASS though!!!

So please correct me if i am wrong... There are 3 wires to hook up. A chassis ground, a white 12 volt positive triggered wire for an automatic, and a blue negative triggered wire for a manual transmission. Whichevere wire; blue or white that isn't used is clipped off and capped. A switch can be mounted and used to "energize" the 2 step... For a manual transmission the wire to tap to on the clutch pedal is the one rainmaker pointed out with a fellow members help. I just ordered one of these and want to wire it up correctly. i have skimmed the instructions and they are very vague to say the least....

The switch or momentarily normally closed button when pushed is wired into the designated wire?! Can someone draw it out to make it easier to understand please... Im having a hard time visualizing this...

A 2-step is launch control without any nannies. You set the desired launch RPM on the controller, and then when you press the clutch to the floor (disengage the clutch) you can push the gas pedal to the floor and the controller will cut the ignition and hold the desired RPM. When you release the clutch (engage the clutch) the engine will instantly return to full throttle. The 2-step is typically used in drag racing for consistent launch's...

Not exactly. The MSD can be used with AUTO's or MT82. The MSD box has two activation options, 12v activation or ground activation (either method can be potentially used with either trans type). I chose to use ground activation based on experimentation and later additional circuit identification help from Sonic. With an auto car, you can use the foot brake or a trans brake or whatever and then based on your particular wiring would select ground or 12v activation wire (what is the output when the 2-step is enabled, needs to be ground or 12v). Make sense?

As for a switch to turn the 2-step off, its turned off as soon as your ground or 12V activation is "released." Yes you can add a toggle switch to ignore your activation method if you like, but its really not necessary IMHO. For the street you might set your 2-step for 3,200 RPMS and for the track 4,700 RPMs based on preference, tire type, and available traction. If you don't want it to activate, you can always set it for 9,000 RPM or something outside a typical launch or "rev" situation. Make sense?

Got it. I ordered a mgw short shifter and a hurst shift handle with the button on top. What i am going to do is wire the button into the wire you tapped into... Appreciate the feedback.
