I have owned probably 20 + cars in my lifetime and I can say that the body panels on my 2016 GT are the thinnest I've ever had. I never park near other cars. I always am carefull when closing the hood/doors. But I've had the paintless dent guy out 3 times to fix dings dents in the doors. One of the them was from my wife simply closing the damn door. It was partially shut so she pushed on the doors which left a fist sized dent in it. (She's not SuperGirl either). I also just had a ding in the driver door near the bottom. No way door could have caused it... must have been road debris or something.

Hell, when I go through the brushless/touchless carwash, the air blowers/dryers at the end of the car wash actually push dents in the hood (Which luckily bounce right back on their own).

Have you guys noticed this?

Yeah, I can say I have:

IMHO, the fenders are the worst. The accident that totaled my car (a Toyota Tacoma 4x4 going the other way and sideswiping me at ~30 MPH) tore my fender into about 3 pieces :eyebulge: Of course, the fenders are also aluminum (which is much more malleable than steel...)

Wow!

Are the doors and hood also aluminum or just the fenders?

Just the hood and the fenders...everything else is steel.

BTW, thinner steel has one advantage: Minor dents in the doorskin are, for the most part, pullable in our cars (which would be a Bondo repair in many other cars)

Well you want the mustang to be heavier than it already is?

Not really, the Ecoboost would suck performance wise if it gained about 200 lbs. from heavier steel  Gotta admit, though, after the accident, I was shocked to find out that the aluminum in the fenders was about as thick as the bottom of a beer can... ;)

Lol. I was leaning on my car (I'm very lightt btw) when installing my light bar yesterday and I noticed I almost left a dent as well. It pushed in and came back out.

Almost fearful to ask, but why would you put a light bar on a 'stang? I'm imagining like 4 10,000 candlepower KC daylighters here :D (like what offroaders use...) The other possibility is that you're law enforcement and putting red and blue's up there...;)

I agree. You can notice this especially when it's raining hard. Also, I don't think you have to compromise structural integrity for weight savings. Ford could have done a better job. However with that said, it would probably drastically increase the price if they were to use other materials.

Are a lot of people finding that this turns out to be a serious issue? I mean, is this car as fragile as it is sounding? I have read threads where people say they inadvertently dent the trunk deck lid with their own hand just by closing it. I went to the dealership yesterday to see the cars for myself, and it barely took any pressure at all to bow the front hood.

I am pretty serious about keeping my car as nice as possible, but between how extremely thin the panels appear to be, and the thin paint concerns people are discussing, I am becoming more worried about trading in my 2012 GT for a 2017+ model. I'm worried about how the car would look 4-5 years down the line. I feel like just the pressure it takes to wipe a coat of wax off would put dents in this car from what I felt.

You want thin body panels and crappy paint work? How about my 2006 Subaru Legacy GT Spec B. Loved the car, but it was worse than our Mustangs.

My dad through a m'fing warm chocolate chip muffin at me but screwed up the toss and it hit the door panel and dented it. A MUFFIN dented the door! It popped out, basically took off the inner door panel and pushed it out, no problem. But... a soft, warm muffin.

The hood is aluminum, so yes, you have to be careful. An original Shelby AC Cobra is even worse, from what I have heard and read, and sell for $1 mill+. It's partially about the weight savings. In the olden days you could sit on a carhood. I had a mechanic hand-dent my then-new 2008 Jeep Rubicon, because he didn't see the hood lock. I was concerned at first, but after 9 months ownership, I have relaxed a bit. Of course, like any nice car, I've owned, I try to baby it.

I haven't seen any paint issues, so far. I have the triple yellow. Maybe it really is "triple"! :clap2:

Are you sure that muffin wasn't frozen? :D
