Ford needs an "AMG division"...

If Mercedes can do this with their 2.0 liter turbo 4, why doesn't Ford have a factory AMG style option for their cars? I know that there is Ford Racing and the GT350, but the EB with 375HP from the factory and the PP with Lightweight wheels would be one of the most fun cars ever made. 208 to 375HP is serious!


Power for the base-spec CLA 250 remains the 2.0-liter turbocharged I4 that churns out 208 hp at 5,500 rpm and hits peak torque of 258 lb-ft from 2,250-5,000 rpm. The AMG-spec CLA45 shares that 2.0-liter turbocharged I4 configuration, but produces 375 hp at 6,000 rpm and 350 lb-ft of torque from 2,250-5,000. Top speed for the CLA45 is 155 mph -- 25 mph over the base CLA-CLass. The AMG accelerates to 60 in 4.1 seconds and sports a set of lightweight AMG 10-spoke 18-inch wheels.

Ford had the SVT division.

I looked at the CLA hard last year. The $29999 base car goes to like $51000 for the CLA45. Would anyone pay an extra $20k for an ecoboost-like version Mustang with ~150 more hp?

On a different note there's been a ton of problems (mechanical) with the CLA45.

I can't say I'm surprised that is a crazy amount of HP they are getting out of that 2.0. That kind of boost puts lots of pressure on the internals. I have a C300 and it has been solid but it is a v6 no turbo. CLA45 is a impressive car though. C63 is even better Concerned now with my ecoboost after reading on here of lots of issues as well with blown motors.

Focus RS?

Yeah, it will be a cool car but I'm wondering why AMG can get 375HP out of a 2.0L engine and even the RS is only 350 out of the 2.3. Everyone knows that Ford left a lot of power on the table with the 2.3 since the tuners are getting such good gains. I'm guessing it is simply a matter of cost, warranty, etc.

I bet the internals in the CLA45 are pretty beefed up but you are right about questions with DI turbo 4's. I'm leaving my EB stock until the warranty is up, or we have more data on this car.

Mod if you want more. If you don't like modding and you want big HP from a factory car, you have to pony up $$$$.

There is the whole "Ford Performance" thing, and they have a pretty awesome 4 cylinder car coming out (as mentioned above). Do you think it would be really hard for them to push 25 more hp out of it? There are EBM making 360-380whp on the stock turbo so we know it is possible.

What I'm saying is that Ford ought to be able to get 375HP out of the 2.3 EB from the factory with full warranty without people having to use 3rd party tuners, lose their warranty, etc. And as long as you're bringing up the Focus ST, it's still down about, oh, 125HP from the Mercedes. Albeit, at a considerably lower price point. I don't think the Focus, Fiesta and GT are Ford Performance cars like the GT350, RS and Raptor. If FP did an EB Mustang and got 375HP or more, I think it would be a fantastic car.

if you don't think the Focus and Fiesta in ST and RS guise are not performance cars, then you have a tiny tiny tiny view of what makes a performance car.

I'm willing to bet my non-performance performance car of a Focus ST would wax your Ecoboost Mustang pretty hard First in the corners, then in a straight line, and then we can make an IKEA run afterwards, and I'll still haul more stuff, more ass, and tear it up in some corners.

Horsepower alone does not make a Performance car.

Well, lets clarify a few things- when she said GT I assumed she was talking about a car you can actually buy- ie, the Mustang GT. On this forum, GT pretty much always means Mustang GT. I said the RS is a FP car, the ST isn't. That's true. Why she got her panties all in a wad is beyond me. The original context was why Ford couldn't or doesn't want to make a 375HP EB Mustang from the factory, with a warranty like Mercedes. This isn't personal, I don't even like or shop at IKEA.
