I know this has been mentioned before but I was wondering what set up the Mustang has, maybe new owners could shed some light on it now cars are starting to arrive, some people have mentioned about putting key fobs in metal boxes so they don't transmit a signal, oh by the way this does work as I've tried it with my mobile phone and the phone wouldn't work, I gather you can get pouches for this which is a good option and something i'll be doing....better than carry a tin box around all day.

I've been reading though that it's more the ODP port that is the problem, if you check out Youtube and search for videos by Secure my car you'll see my concerns, not only that I've just brought a Fiesta ST and this is the way these cars are getting stolen, now i'll be interested and i'm sure others will be are the Mustang using the same sort of set up as a the Ford ST models? If so it could be a bit worrying with more cars arriving by the day.

Any thoughts?

Yeah totally, going into the house and nicking the keys is the modern day coat hanger trick, some folk can only use deterrents, get an automatic sensor light? Parking pole, block it in with another car if possible, steering wheel lock. All you can do is make it hard as possible but these guys are pros, as jim says though, depends how badly they want it, i've seen a few stolen car programs where they can find and disable trackers in less than 5 minutes hidden in places you wouldnt know existed.

I won't even hide my keys anymore. If they were to break into my house for my car I would rather them see the keys and leave immediately and not force them out of me or my Mrs.

It's a horrible day to live in when it comes to this sort of stuff. I will be putting a CCTV camera up. But if any of my cars were stolen I don't think I would want it back!

Yeh, same.
Having my car tracked so if it gets nicked, I can go on line and see where it is.

Issue is, most good 'crooks' can disable a tracker, so this is somewhat 'pointless'. Just gives your mrs a way to see where you've been

My thoughts are always, leave your keys where you normally do, not in obvious places which could be seen via the letter box. And hope nothing happens to the car, cus a determined vermin will find a way to take the car no matter security steps you've taken. You wouldn't want a low life oxygen thief waking you or your little ones up in the middle of the night as the after effect trauma isn't worth it.

I have been visited by the police few times to say that my car had sent a distress call to Germany as someone is trying to disable the tracker and I should hide my keys. My reply to them is, if a vermin wants it they can take it as I have gap insurance and honestly won't want the car back or even stress the police looking for it.

Imagine having your stolen car back, it won't feel special anymore as you don't know what those low life's has done in it.

(I have no kids mind you)
If they come in to steal my keys, they can help me finding them . Jokes on them when a 20 something ripped 6ft tall bloke walks down the stairs with a knife in hand (Show knife on my bedside cabinet, looks the part, but is sharp AF for a show knife). your move you poor brave soul.

Also members on forums should limit the amount of info being divulged as criminal rings do troll forums. Especially displaying your Reg number and location of where you've been and those posting comments/pictures on "sighted" thread. These are how the organised rings trail you if they want a specific car. Gone are days where they just drive around hoping they see a target.

I have a 2yr old girl that I adore and have about ÂŁ250k worth of metals (cars) and 6ft 2" tall. But I won't fight these organised criminal rings unless my family is in danger, but for metals and property they can have it hence why we're insured.

A junkie high as a kite isn't going to be scared of you and a knife. He knows for a fact you ain't gonna stab him.
Who says he'll be high as a kite? Regardless, there's a law to self defence, you haven't got to stab him, the intention is, if he see's the knife and comes at you, you win in legal terms because it's self defence. Otherwise he flee's the scene knowing you have a Knife. I'm well within my rights once someone is on my property to use restraining and legal force to subdue and restrain them, if they act violent or threaten me, i'm allowed to use a weapon.

Anyway, it's different strokes for different folks as the saying goes. My neighbor had his R8 stolen, his keys were on his bedside cabinet next to him, the crooks bump keyed through his back door, upstairs, into his room took the keys and left. Didn't take anything else, no macbooks, no tvs, no computers, no jewelry (of which the wife's was NEXT TO the keys) etc. Apparently when he reported it the cops were like 'Yeah there's been a lot of high end audi thefts up and down the midlands recently, coming into houses, taking just the keys, disabling a tracker and leaving.
The tracker apparently 'came back on' and the car was in a German port - 2 weeks later. Needless to say insurance coughed up and he now drives an M4.

Regardless of being within your rights if you're going to produce a weapon you'd better be prepared to use it, and effectively too, cos if the perp gets it off you I'd bet they'd use it.

Well, depends if we're aiming to Kill the guy, or just restrain, if it's restrain i'm going for tendons and ligaments in the arms, legs etc to stop him escaping, if it's to maim, throat or chest, wrists works as well to stop any kind of 'fight' - however, that's all hypothetical and well and good saying it.

If there's someone in your house, you've got two things, hastle and distress knowing somebody broke into your house and stole your belongings whilst you slept - good luck feeling safe in there ever again, and then insurance companies (wankers). I'd sooner take action into my own hands personally, but other people have other things to think about - young kids, wives etc.
