Guys, how sensitive is the alarm in our cars?

Was getting ready this morning and the car alarm went off. By the time I was out of the house there was no one to be seen and no signs of the car having been tampered with?

What would it take for the car to alarm out?

As a data point, my alarm went off on my Eurotunnel journey when I locked it (which sets the alarm by default) and popped to the loo.... I don't know whether it was the vibrations or changes in air pressure that triggered it, but the other people in my carriage weren't happy when I came back. (I must remember to set "reduced guard" next time..)

That's the only time mine has gone off - on a convertible if that makes a difference.

Alarm can also go off from tilt sensors, mine went off when i jacked the car up too high to fit a wheel under it.

Also it went off when i locked my girlfriend inside without the key and walked to the shop (no surprise!)

Thanks gents, deep south Manders Mustang.

There was no one in the car at the time (bet you got a b***cking for that Manders!), it was just parked in my driveway on our quiet street, so no reason for vibrations etc?

I'm just worried if anyone had tried to be opportunist. There have been a few thefts and attempts in the past on our estate with it being so close to the M62 and hence a straight run to the Liverpool docks.

That said, it clearly works, and was bl**dy loud as well!

One suggestion.......... I have to keep a split screen VW on the drive and these can be broken in to with a spoon. However behind it to reduce my insurance I have a ram proof locking post that lifts in and out of a concrete set foundation 18 inches in to the ground. Takes about 2 seconds to remove it and put it back. It would literally take someone 30 minutes with an angle grinder to get through these posts (they come in varying strengths)
It cost me about ÂŁ150 inc fitting and even being a raging cynic there is no way someone would tackle that to steal a vehicle. When out the flap covers the post hole and its looks like a normal drive.

All they have to do is break the window without setting the alarms off, some cars have blind spots so the alarm won't sound if they keep as close to the door as possible, they then pug their thingy into the OBD port open the door and press the start button.....car gone, it's that quick, no keys needed. If you remove the fuse on the Fiesta it means they have to reach into the car to plug another in but by doing this it means they'll set the alarms off, I was hoping the Mustang might have a fuse just for the OBD port but it's looking unlikely, like I said though couldn't you just remove the starter motor fuse if you aren't using the car that much???????
Something you might be interested in
our cars have 2 OBD ports, one is open and the other is behind the dash
I tried to plug in a heads up display, would not work on mine, tried it on an Euro Mustang worked fine.
Someone in the US had the same issue, their port was locked out.
So it seems that the US cars the open OBD port is shut down, where on the Euro cars its open.
Could be because there have been thefts in the US using this method.
I suppose its a pain that I cant use my display, but I suppose its good the port is closed out. Suppose if it needs to be checked the one behind the dash will be used

No lol, It was just after i gt the car, my missus was giving me a 'I didnt touch anything' spiel... i heard it about 3/4 mile away up the road going off and called her like 'Thats my alarm aint it...'

Maybe someone tried to open it with the touch print? who knows.

Maybe a bug, spider or fly in the car. They can set off the ultrasonic if it's on Full Guard.

Alarm went off when car garaged. No apparent reason. Turned out the dashcam mount had fallen off the screen and activated it.

If you are not present to hear the alarm and see the indicators flashing then how do you know if the alarm has been activated on returning to the vehicle?

The alarm on my Mustang went off on the drive once about 1 hours after car was locked with full guard set. The only difference to normal was that the centre console storage unit had been left open. At the time I let the alarm run it's course and was very observant of all lights and messages but apart from the console being open there was nothing unusual and nothing to indicate that the alarm had activated.

When mine went off it was several minutes before I got out to the garage as it was my wife that heard it. When I got to the car the noise had ceased but the light show was ongoing. I have no idea how long that continues for.

Have yet to hear my alarm (a good thing)!

Ive also got a tracker installed. If it cant make a constant GPS or GSM connection then it automatically activates the immobiliser, meaning Mr. Crim cant start the car again.

Its also got a secret o/ride in case the system goes wonky.

What's the make and spec of your tracker?
