i wonder why new zealanders have only ordered 60/600 MT's with the new stang and you aussies have ordered mostly MT's ? if I'm not mistaken.

I'd love to get my Mustang tot he south island. A few years ago Infinity took my wife and I to NZ to drive their cars before they were released in Australia. PAradise / Glenorchy Rd is bloody special. Up over the Crown ranges to Wananka.. bloody beautiful.

I have been wondering the same thing myself, my last 2 XR6 Falcons have been autos, but for me, my Mustang had to be a MT V8, and I love it. Forgot how much fun and more engaging it is to drive, especially with a nice V8 under the hood. My only thoughts are that a lot have been ordered by those in the big Cities, as if I still lived in Auckland and wanted to use it as a DD on the motoway, an auto would probably be a necessity.

hey neal. i live in auckland and would not have the mustang as an AT. completely different driving experience as you know. man-machine connection. different level some don't understand i guess. in controll and the sound of the exhaust. probably me just being old fashion. or just old! cheers, tom

The auto is the better gear box and can also handle more power, but my last car was auto and it just made me sad. So back to manual and I love every gear clunking second of it.

Side note though, the first to second shift is horrible so clunky, I can't wait to do the MGW swap

I have ordered an auto, for a number of reasons: 1) car is going to be driven frequently in traffic; 2) I don't think I can shift as fast as a modern auto box; 3) wife may need to drive it now and then, and she doesn't want to drive manuals (which I think is odd for a Mexican - I thought they all drove VWs ); 4) I have heard that the auto is a better box overall; and 5) next year, if all goes to plan and we buy a house where I can fit appropriate facilities, will be restoring/project managing a '69 Corvette or thereabouts (as long as the year model came out in Le Mans blue), which I want to be manual as that car will be less about speed and more about machine-man connection (will be happy with a small block).

Besides, if I get bored, I can paddle shift (if I work out what that's about).

Despite all the above, I may still regret getting an auto. I enquired in January with dealer who said everything except colour is now locked in (I ordered 4 Sept '15).

I ordered a V8 Manual Convertible in 2014, to match the V8 Manual Mustang I'd had as a DD since 2002. Then news came that the convertibles would be Auto only. I tried everything I could to have Ford honour my original order, writing to and speaking to anyone and everyone who'd listen, all to no avail. To say I was mightily pissed off would be an understatement. I still am! Anyway, and I imagine I'm not alone on this, eventually the time came where I had to commit to either a Manual Fastback or Auto Convertible. With arm twisted I chose the latter.

Ever since then I've been trying to justify it, usually when stuck in walking pace heavy traffic here in Melbourne.

I still don't know how I'll feel about the auto but it is what it is now, and I presume I'll love it regardless.

Backing up my driveway into a thin 1930's built garage could be my biggest issue as I had it down to a fine art in the manual. I'll find out this week when I collect the new car anyway I guess.

I think it's a bit wider than your older car too. Hope it fits okay!

Bloody hell. I hope the side mirrors fold back as my paranoia with clipping the garage door entrance will be extreme until I have it down pat in the new machine.

MuzzStang, the reversing camera on the car is excellent. Not like looking through a fishbowl like some cars.

It shows clearance lines, and intended path!

I don't have any problems with my manual, it is a bit clunky in very low speed manoeuvres, but I find it smooth otherwise. Likewise the clutch - no bunny hopping or abrupt operation here.

Good to hear Rob, thanks. That may be my saving grace.

As for the manual I imagine it'd be a vast improvement on my 2002 version and I was fine with that, so I'd be looking forward to the new version if I had one ordered.
