I don't know about power, but totally agree that the GT should have the same handling as the GT350 (at least as an option). Hopefully Ford is planning for that.

The new 1LE package really does look impressive. I think it will be similar in performance to the GT350TP, and will get better fuel economy, but not double like someone said.

The handling of the GT350 is very good, with a little push at the limit. The car feels very light because it is so buttoned down and reacts well to steering inputs. The big thing on the GT350 is revving that engine out. You can't really do it much on the street, but when you get the chance it is pretty fantastic.

I think the SS 1LE will have similar handling traits, but the engine is more of a low-end torque monster than a high-end screamer. On the street that can really help since you aren't at the top of the RPM range, but on the track you can feel the torque fall-off up top. So the experience behind the wheel is a bit different.

I suspect that a next-gen Z/28 will (like the C7 vette) combine the intent of the ZL1 and Z/28, and will end up basically being a 1LE with a supercharger and maybe CCB's and fancy leather options, plus the availability of the 8-speed auto.

For Ford to compete with that they will need the GT500, which would be a supercharged 5.2 (cross-plane crank), with the luxury items from the tech pack GT350 and optional Recaros.

For Ford to compete with the 1LE, I think they need to make the GT350 Mag Ride suspension setup an option on the regular GT. Putting the GT350 suspension as well as weight reduction on the regular GT would shave a few pounds and show that the S550 platform is just fine. It would still be down on power to the Camaro, but I don't think it would be giving up much in the handling department at that point. The GT350 afterall is no slouch. Of course any power bumps to the 5.0 would be appreciated as well.

I realize the Camaro is a better car in some ways than the Mustang, but the Mustang has its own set of advantages, so I don't think Ford is as far behind as some are stating. A suspension update and slight power bump would put them right back in the running IMO.

I don't know if people would agree with me but the current mustang gt should have been where the gt350 is now in performance wise! Gt350 should have been in the performance league of the vette and beyond! We need a balance in the force! What the new gen camaro did to the old gen is almost same as what Boss 302 did to mustang gt back in the day and even better!
sure, just add 10k to both and have a PSC2 tire option.

99.8% of the population likely can't drive a GTPP to its limits, let alone a GT350 or Z06. I don't think your average magazine racer realizes just how fast these cars are today. There isnt much room to go much faster, they are just making it easier for average joes to go fast with DCTs and all the nannies

I meant in every way! For example high 3's to 4 second flat 0-60, high 11's to low 12's in quarter mile and list goes on! GT350 should have been with the same engine, tuned, but lower weight 3400 lb vs 3700 gt! So Ford introduces the mustang gt first with the voodoo and then gt350 comes with a more track capable and lower weight version! Reverse of what corvette does to the camaro!

lol, and where exactly were they going to shave 300lbs? Do you not understand how much huge wheels/tires/brakes/and extra cooling weigh?

For a minute I thought I got re-directed to a Cheby forum LOL.
Not sure If i missed it, but no amount of saving can make me buy
an ugly car, it may perform well and that pushes Ford, good for all of us.
Butt ugly car, with even more ugly interior, plus you can't see out of it.
Performance would have to be a lot more than close to even consider it.

I do see plenty of CHeby fans hear, can't be much interesting on Cheby forums
for you folks to be trolling a fairly hard core Mustang site.
I am sure folks looking for the GT350 will be very happy to hear a few here
will be leaving us to go buy the new Camaro. :)

2015 Z/28 .....
MSRP @ $75K why would we. Chevy made a Hugh mistake pricing that car and paid for it. That engine had its flaws and people knew it. So what's to talk about . It just goes to show what a great chassis can do for the Camaro now. Ford should have had a weight reduction and a little more power on the all new 15 mustang GT. They missed the mark on that one. I also think they needed a little more grunt down low on the non R 350. Like the previous post said you can't use the 8000 rpm on the street.
Flat black hood is a racing thing to do away with glare. The 69 Boss 302 had it also.

So what.... The only other cars in the race was a couple of caymans. 8 cars only and NO Camaro Z/28, BMW ,Nissan and etc. This series used to have 50 cars in the GS class now it's 8 with two makes. Total boring race not worth watching and I was there. But for the Rolex 24.
Your picture was from last year not the Daytona race.
If Porsche drops out the Shelby win all the races this year. Duh
Just like in the Picture, the Camaro will always be no.2 behind the Mustang in Sales and Peformance.

100hp per Litre-- Camaro boys are not even on the same page.
GT350 or GT500 -- Camaro boys are not even on the same page.
Resale value in 5years -- Camaro boys are not even on the same page.

That is why the Camaro was out of production for several years.

Nice try, Chevy boys. LOL

Get rid of the back seat area ( you are taking the seats out for the R model, might as well loose that total weight there), shrink the car a little, more lightweight and aluminum materials, move the trans towards center back, put the battery in the trunk, lighter wheels, exhaust system and drive shaft, put a 150 lb driver in there! There goes your 300 lbs

**Disclosure: I currently own a 2014 1LE**

This 1LE will match the Gen 5 Z/28 in performance, Which puts it past the 350 and approaching 350R territory. Why? the regular SS already hits the Z's 1/4 mile times and is very close going around the road courses. Bigger tires, better suspension and better brakes combined with lower weight should help bridge that gap. I can't wait for the head to heads.
