Good morning!

Question for those that have Lund tunes or the FF tune with an auto. I'm coming from a canned Diablo tune to the Lund FF tune and I have noticed the following changes.

I've noticed more engine breaking with this FF tune? This tune seems to hold gear longer to the point where it almost feels like it's in between gears, or if I'm giving it slight gas at lower speed (through residential or a parking lot) it doesn't seem as smooth.

I've also noticed that if cruising at a slower speed and giving it slight gas it seems to downshift almost instantly, which is good for throttle response but its almost as if the computer is confused on what gear it should be in.

Lastly I've noticed in S mode the tune will downshift by its self sometimes without giving it any gas. Almost as if once it hits a certain speed say decelerating from 30 to 20 mph it downshifts into a lower gear automatically without applying any throttle.

Is this normal with the Lund FF tune? I feel like this is more pronounced after running a tank full of 91, then a tank full of E85. I plan on data logging but was hoping you all could share your experiences on my above comments/questions with your auto.

Thank you!

Probably best to run a datalog. I have a 15 auto and plan on putting my FF tune this afternoon. I will be changing from lund's 93 tune to their FF tune. Is that what you're comparing your FF tune to?

Having drive both Lund's 93 octane tune (for ~4,000 miles) and their new Flex Tune (Just ~30 miles this afternoon) I'd say that what you're reporting is normal.

Although, if my memory serves correct, "S mode" would downshift early while slowing down even with Ford's stock tune. Not sure if Lund changed that, it seemed about the same for me.

But the other two, yes its a sportier tune so it will be a bit more aggressive as far as what gear it wants to hold at what speed.

I've only ever noticed my car downshifting to first when I come to a complete stop.I may have to check this out tomorrow. Still on stock tune.

My stock auto downshifts in sport mode but not if I am using paddles to select gears.

Best advice anyone can give you is to actually go and get on a dyno chassis.

It could be something with the tune. I don't know because I'm on stock tune. Here's a couple of things I've noticed over the 8500 miles I've put on my car though. First thing is this car is very sensitive to quality of gas IMO. I only run 93 octane but I swear I can feel the difference between some fill ups verses other. My butt dyno says a good 15-20HP.
Sport, Sport Plus and Track mode all downshift on their own unless using paddles as someone else mentioned. It seems to me the more aggressive you drive when in Sport or Track the more aggressive the downshifting will be just like the upshifting. If I keep my foot in the throttle say more than halfway the car stays in a lower gear a lot longer. Usually when driving like this the car will downshift almost as quick as you take your foot off the gas and hit the brake. I thought this was part of the whole adaptive learning thingy.....
Not sure how many people use their paddle shifters a lot, I use mine almost all the time in Sport Plus, but if you turn off traction control and Advance Trac the car will give you much quicker shifts between 2nd and 3rd gear as opposed to the second or 2 lag when Advance Trac is on.

I appreciate the responses! I put in some more 91 Shell gasoline and it seems to be shifting better (or I'm used to it) I think it may have been a combo of bad 91 gas and partial E-85.

I'm still going to data log at some point but I at least feel better about driving it again.

Thanks!

It's suppose to do that. The car is trying to keep you in the sweet spot. I personally like it. If it's to aggressive at times I'll put the shifter in S and control the shifts myself like in a parking lot if I for sure don't want it downshifting.

I don't think the tune likes a mixture of gas at all though and I've put about 2kmiles on FF tune going back and forth every 4-5 tankfulls.

Noob to E85 question: With the Lund FF tune, you can run regular 87,91,93 octane and if you want, run E85? Do you have to adjust anything tune or OEM equipment wise? For those running the FF tune, what kind of MPG are you seeing when running E85?

Sorry for all the questions at once, but this thread seems to be the place to get the right answers.

From what I understand the FF tune can be run with 91/93 or E-85, in order to run 87 if its possible you'd have to specify in the tune request order sheet.

Lund gives you instructions to run the gasoline down to 0 miles empty if switching over to E-85 and vice versa. He then recommends you drive like an old lady for 10-15 minutes or so for the tune to adapt to the new fuel.

I personally noticed about a 33% decrease in fuel economy. I was getting a very nice 15.9 or so with 91 and FF tune and it decreased down to about 10.6. Note I do about 90% city driving.

Thanks,
