Over the weekend I was cleaning all personal effects out of my '01 Stang to prepare it for sale and I stumbled upon the dB exhaust check form the tester filled out.About 5 years ago I drove past a fat cop with a clipboard and pen standing on a traffic island at the intersection of Flinders and King St's here in Melbourne. I was literally cruising slowly in my fully stock 2001 Stang. Sure enough, a couple of weeks later I receive a notice to have the car's noise checked at one of a list of approved exhaust shops. If it wasn't done, and the results returned satisfying reg's within the allotted time my car was to be deemed unroadworthy.
"Shitty" doesn't quite cover how I felt when I received the note. I booked my car in for the required check, at a place near home here in Melbourne, and watched everything the guy did on the day like a hawk. The bloke seemed most sympathetic, noting that stock Maseratis, Ferraris and Lambo's are far far noisier than my Mustang was stock.
The dB meter was setup exactly as you've described but no police were required. The guy educated me on what does and doesn't fly re. regulations. He tested it at idle (no prob's) then at rev's (just over the legal limit) but he wrote the figures down right at the limit so I'd pass.
I left there wondering what the hell happened to fun and how the hell do those cars above get away with it straight from the factory if mine didn't?
yes you are correct the ford racing mufflers are different to the borla mufflers the bola is a bit louder.Tell me this , ford racing borla sport catback is different setup than the borla s type catback ? Because it seems we can only get the borla s type locally . Am I correct ??

The Ford Racing sport uses different mufflers as compared to the Borla s type....a little bit quieter....both are made by Borla....Ford Racing is sold in Aus by Herrods I believe...I think that kpm were also selling Ford Racing stuff. Ford Racing is also a bit dearer.Tell me this , ford racing borla sport catback is different setup than the borla s type catback ? Because it seems we can only get the borla s type locally . Short answer = no
The ATAK is pretty well known to be one of the loudest exhaust options. Putting it way over the accepted DB levels in Australia.
Having said that, depending on many factors.....you might get away with it, for a while..
