I've been lurking here for a little while now, finally decided to post.

I have a 2016 GT premium lined up for what I feel is a good price, but I wanted to run it by you guys. As options, it's the exact color I want with performance package, voice activated nav, and reverse park assist for 34k. The biggest problem is that it's 1200 miles away (I'm in Texas and it's in VA). Is it worth the hassle of flying out and driving back? I would make it a trip to see my family in WV, visit friends along the way in KY, and probably make it a 3 day total trip back.

Anyway, I guess my questions are:

Good price? Worth the hassle? Thanks!!

Did they tell you how many miles it has? If it's less than 100 I'd say take the deal and go get it.

Good point. It's new, but I'm not sure how many miles are on it. I would assume under 100, but I'll ask.

I'm also not sure of the whole process that I'm about to go through, so if someone has advice, please provide it.

I told him that I won't be able to make it there until the end of March (vacation is scheduled for March 25th), so I would be willing to put cash down to reserve it if we got everything worked out on this end. They're a high volume dealer, so he said it wouldn't be a problem. Is there separate paperwork that would be involved if I were to put a reservation on it? I'm also assuming this would go towards my down payment? Also, can most of the paperwork and financing be completed before I get there?

Thanks again!

If this is a KOONS deal in Sterling you can call up to finance and do most of the paperwork over email. The finance manager is as follows : contact Tom Murray at (703) 430-7700 or [email protected] with any questions

Unless you are going thru the purchase process remotely I doubt they'd be willing to just hold the car for two months. They have expenses being incurred. And also I'd be hesitant to actually purchase a car without seeing it or having someone I trust seeing it. Do you have a relative that could go inspect it on your behalf before you commit to buying it remotely?

I know we all trust Dealers but I don't trust them that much to buy remote and sight unseen.

Here's my suggestion, and it worked well for me: visit your local dealer and order the car exactly the way you want. Since you are going to wait two months now it would be better to order and get exactly what you want. You can negotiate a fair price when you order it. Remember since you can wait you have time on your side. My order was placed 11/06 and I picked up the car 01/13. Not bad at all and I got what I wanted and the price I paid was even lower that what I negotiated at time of order.

Thanks for the response.

Yeah, I would be planning on buying here and picking it up when I got there.

What made you change your mind overnight?

I've actually contacted local dealers (up to four hours away) with this deal, and asked them if they could do something close. They said the closest they could get is 37, and if the rebates they're offering can be extended to this region, I should take it.

I do have family nearby. They're not exactly car people, but they could swing in and check it out.

Your information. About not being able to pick up the car until the end of March.
That is a significant wait. But all other issues aside, you know what is best for you and I wish you luck.

You're right, but I appreciate the advice of those more experienced.

I'm contacting local dealers now. After all is said and done, the car will be around 37.5k OTD, so it's not that fantastic of a deal. I think local dealers can match it.

I'm also asking about ordering one. I think guard metallic with ceramic interior would be absolutely lovely. Do you have any idea for how much longer orders can be made?

I live nearby Koons in VA, so if you'd like me to go inspect the car you wish to buy with a fine tooth and comb, I'd be more than willing to help you out... I can even bring my DSLR camera and take tons of photos...

Yes, it's at Koons in Sterling.

I appreciate the offer. I will keep it in mind in case I decide to buy and will definitely let you know. However, at this time, I'm actually in the process of backing out as he sent me the OTD price and, as I said, it's around 37.6k. Local dealers can get around 38-39k, so it's really not worth it for me. The salesperson is also pressuring me to make a deal because, "This price is only good until the end of January." So, I guess he's trying to make his sales quota. I'd rather overpay than be pressured into buying something. My little Toyota runs fine. I don't *have* to buy anything :).

I always get my vehicles up in the DC area. I am only 3 hours away though. They seem to always have great deals and Koons is one I have purchased from before. I don't know if it is something where they do a large volume and can offer better deals or what.

Yeah, it looks like a fantastic deal at first. However, for it to be worth it for me, it would have to be at least 2000 cheaper than anyone nearby.

Why don't you build the car on the Ford.com website, print out the result and take it to a couple dealers in your area asking for a price. Or when you go tell them what you'd like to buy that car for. I have always gotten a good deal when ordering. The car doesn't sit around costing the dealer any money, so they can deal. And you can order at anytime in the year. They stop making the 2016 model around July I think but they start making the 2017s then. So if you wait long enough you'll be ordering a 2017.
