Condensation

So it has warmed up a bit and with that the return of the rain.

A rain soaked 50 mile drive to work then parked in a multi storey.

Return to the car 10 hours later and apart from being filthy there is condensation in the driver's side rear lights as well as both fronts.

Now my BMW started doing this after 10 years but the Mustang has only been with me 2 weeks.

Anyone else getting this?

Tiny bit on my fronts, used to happen on my Amarok , didn't take much notice to be honest.

The indicator/side lights are also full of moisture as well. Just not as noticeable as the headlights which seem almost steamed up!

Someone (him again) said on another thread that the lights weren't sealed units and were designed that way. That might be a cop out of course.

If they need a few cycles in an oven to get them opened up I'd call that a sealed unit...? ;)

I don't think they are sealed. Most units seem to have a little 'drainage' hole in the bottom. If you look closely at the Mustang headlights you'll probably see it. I'll have a look myself if I remember when I go outside.

I've got a huge 'ship-in-a-bottle' insect in one of my BMW headlights. It's much bigger than the tiny hole in the unit - maybe it grew bigger by feasting on other tiny insects that crawled in!?

They aren't sealed, meant to breath, just like Audi headlights etc, only need to worry if they're filled with water

I guess the led's dont get as hot as "bulbs" so it might take some time to dry out. Mine has condensation front and rear but it doesn't seem to affect the brightness

I don't think that's right. Having condensation on a headlight can dim the light as well as corrode the fitting. The unit should be sealed.

All clear now ; it comes and goes ....not too concerned about it .

More things to enjoy about the car than a little mist in the headlights... that clears .....

So , i was a bit concerned about all the discussion on condensation (...especially as my car seems to be featured as an example) so i went outside and took a couple of pictures .....all ok again ! I think they will steam up / condense in the right (wrong) conditions and then seems to clear themselves ...for me not an issue ...(just a bit dirty at the moment ..it's not steamed up ..it's dirt/grime on the outside ..)
