Well that stinks. Did you find the original? Or the pieces of it I should say.
Yea I found a bunch of small pieces in the intercooler. I blew air from the outlet side and a bunch came out the inlet. Confident the majority came out of the blow off valve.
So frustrating.

We share the same luck. I finally sold the suncoast torque converter, but while putting it back together I did $900 worth of damage. Well at least we always have something to do.

im thinking that what this blower is about to cost me.

that’s fine. Makes us better mechanics because we’ve already been through it.

Decided while the blower is away, I’ll install the ARS tensioner

on top of that, the mmr valve covers should be in production this week so I’m hoping they will show up with the blower. I’ll be doing an engine health check, new plugs, and re doing some of the plumbing at the same time. Really looking forward to this season.

Finally got the blower back.
Picked up Vortechs bell mouth and a filter for the street. That won’t happen again.

can’t wait to tow this thing to the track. Once my old tundra sells, I’ll be hitting the track.

currently, I have the car turned way down with only 18 degrees of timing and down 2-3 psi due to the air filter. Seems that the converter is much happier but I’ve begun the process of getting ATI to build a converter.

Still been busy. Pulled the trans to have the torque converter adjusted at Ati. Considering doing one of their close ratio th400 combos maybe next winter. If I go that route, it’ll be fine to do drag brakes and maybe a cage.

on a separate note, my f150 is coming right along. And I finally picked up a trailer!

Picked up the converter Thursday. I was told the fins were almost straight so my theory was confirmed that I was blowing through the converter.

transmission went back in Friday.

I installed the chute mount yesterday. The stroud 430 chute should be here tomorrow. I’m fabricating a pull handle mount that will use the passenger side seat bolt and be easy removable. It will also mount a fire extinguisher.

oh, and my valve covers FINALLY showed up. Huge thanks to Holbrook. Picture is just a moc up to figure out the new breather fittings. I had to order 11-14 gasket kit.

What caused the converter fin issue?
i purchased the converter knowing it wasn’t correct for my application. But I wasn’t too worried about it at that time because I had other issues. After pulling 5 degree of ignition timing out of the tune and the converter reacting in a positive way, I knew it was time to have it tightened up. From what I understand, the converter was built for a turbo mod motor @ about 3400 pounds and I’d guess around 800 horsepower. The fins could’ve become straight because of the power/weight and running the 3.31 originally because it did feel like it was “slipping” more and more.

now my plan is to add the 5 degree of timing back into it and do a couple pulls on the dyno to verify everything is happy.

I'd assume you would have to loosen up a turbo converter for use in a centei application. Maybe the fins were already damaged from boosting up on the brake from previous owner?

I was thinking the same thing but I told Ati what I had and let them do their thing. It’s very possibly that it’s been damaged or even possible that I damaged it. No idea. But I have faith that it’s now set up for what I need currently.

I’ve already spoke to Ati about also going to a full ati transmission and converter. We spoke about going to one of their converters with my trans but we ran into issues with the adapter and bell housing.

so for now, I hope I can get the car to run 9s with my lowest boost setting and current transmission/converter. I may try my two smaller pulley to see how it reacts but my current goal is first 9s and nhra license.

Little before and after. Finally figured out a fitting combo to eliminate the long loop of a hose. It’s the little things. Over the winter, I want to focus on building all new cooling system hoses including running the heater hoses under the intake. Maybe a wire tuck but I’m not so worried about that.
