This is complete bs. I never have my radio on. And my car is loud and definitely not going through the speakers. But a lot of car manufacturers including ford do this. But they are NOT doing this on the GT350

I think they were actually doing noise cancellation on the GT350 and the Ecoboost.

In effect trying to reduce certain frequencies to mask "bad" sounds. The GT350 also has the "soundscreen" front windshield for a similar effect.

I don't recall where I saw it (maybe in that thread linked earlier), but I think the noise cancellation was turned off if the trunk was opened. I was thinking one could test the effectiveness of the technology by driving around for a while with the trunk popped.

Also, I'm not convinced this is actually being used on the GT350. I drive around with my windows open all the time with the radio off, and I don't notice a signficant difference with the window up and the radio on. Also, the lack of radio at all on the GT350R makes one wonder if this is actually in use.

If this is being done on the GT350, I would be surprised that it hasn't been reported by auto mags/journalists like Jalopnik etc. It is one of those hot topics right now in regards to cars like these.

Second, it is done really well in the GT350 if it is being done. My previous car was an M4 and with it on it sounds like the exhaust is in surround sound. I unplugged the amp that controlled it and it got quieter for one. And the sound went back to coming from the rear like it is supposed to.

Last, I've heard so much wrong information from salespeople, techs and service advisors that I don't put a lot of stock in what they say. Unless, I verify it myself or trust said person knows what they are talking about. Sadly, as many know here, we usually no more about these cars then people working at the dealerships.

Pull the fuse to find out for sure. I really really doubt this.

Coming from BMW which has this system, I obviously dont know how Ford implemented it, but if they did it the way everyone is doing, then it means whether the radio is off or volume is up or down has no impact on the volume of the sound of the exhaust from speaker. Its almost like the speaker has a smaller sub speaker built in that is always on. The only way to turn it off is by coding it out or by unplugging the sound module.

For a car like this, it is very disappointing and hard to understand. Car sounds amazing as it is...

Does it really matter, as long as it sounds good and performs well?

Plus, doesn't the car sound good with the window down, or when recorded/taped from outside cameras?

And what about the base R, which has no radio?

This may be a new argument around here but I have been part of this debate since 2011 when back then new M5 was announced to have this feature. This thing has been beaten to death in pages and pages and pages of forum posts over the years and the final perception among car enthusiasts is simple : this kind of feature is anti pure/anti enthusiast/anti raw. You wont see this in purist cars or proper sports cars such as Porsche GT3/GT4 or Corvette or Viper.

Two aspects to this : purely audial annoyance because it bothers certain people (in bmw its very obvious and sounds artificial) and the other thing is it gives an opportunity for people to bad mouth that car.

In the BMW case, cars sound very quiet without it from inside. Shelby however is probably the loudest car I have heard in stock form. It makes no sense to do this.

We all know the gt350 sounds good from the outside already, so it has nothing people can bad mouth about its exhaust. If Ford pipes it into the cabin to allow better damping of road noise, and it is this hard to tell, then does it really matter? Really? I can see if a car with a terrible sounding engine has faked noise played by the stereo, then that's totally something to complain about, but the gt350 just doesn't fit this category.

Just seems to me a small thing to be concerned about with this car. Besides, in 20 years when we are all driving electric only cars that autopilot themselves, we will all need something to make the 'exhaust note' sound better! :headbonk:

I guess it's a good thing the radio/speakers suck, because I don't notice anything coming out of them. :D ;)

Me crazy, and I can't help myself
There is going to be a line at ford to return GT350s I'm sure! This is horrendous, oh the humanity!
For anyone who has an R allocation at MSRP that is overwhelmed by this new found information, i will help by taking your car off your hands:lol:

On a serious note, as a future owner i can't say i'm excited by this news but if the car is awesome (which everyone says it is), why would this change your opinion of it? First everyone complains that the radio sucks and should be better, now we aren't happy that its pumping in engine sounds? If the radio really sucks as bad as we all say it does, isn't this a moot point?

All I know about this is I HAVE to roll down the windows to truly enjoy the sound. If it is being done it is slight with the factory system to help overcome all the sound deadening with windows up.

Listened to my brother drive my car around the neighborhood and could hear him from a 1/4 mile away in a dense suburban neighborhood so no this car doesn't need it except for windows fully up.
